If you are an Atheist or Agnostic, not affiliated with any type of Religion, Philosophy, or Belief System.
Then (Hypothetically) Scientists proved there was a God, or Creator, or some Divine spirit. The catch is, you don't know which or if ANY religion is right...
Which would you choose if you KNEW He/She existed...

I'm Catholic, so I'm not really the intended audience for this question, but I'd guess that, if God's existence were scientifically proved, most atheists and agnostics would just move to deism.

I figured as much. But this is just a hypothetical. I guess, in other words... Which religion would you choose if you HAD to choose one.

Definitely not the Abrahamic deity.

the kingdom of the heart needs no other gods before it.
or behind it, for that matter.

If I understand what you mean (correct me if I'm wrong), you're asking for a specific organized system of religion? Because I suppose deism could be (arguably) called a religion--certainly a system of belief. At first, then, I was going to go with Unitarian Universalism, of whose churches we have a plethora here in Boston (the faith's American birthplace, after all); each denomination (Unitarianism and Universalism) used to be Christian, but now they take in anyone, regardless of belief (or lack thereof). Politics may be an issue, though, as they tend to lean very much towards the left, and anyone who thinks contrariwise may not be welcomed. The other possibility, though, may well be the Baha'i Faith, in which I have some academic interest. Baha'is believe that nearly all founders of world religion--Abraham, the Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, etc.--were "manifestations of God," and work for world peace and inter-religious dialogue and co-operation.

Too far of a leap to make (as if this needed to be said) If god has been proven, the method of proving and revelation of what properties of 'god' we understood from that confirmation would influence what I would consider.

If science proved the existence of god, then the god I would believe in would be whichever one science had proved. If it was the christian god, I'd believe in the christian god. If it was the muslim one, I'd believe in that one. How is that even a sensible question? If you are asking which version of god I would prefer to be real, then I don't really have a preference. I suppose I'd pick whichever one would leave me alone to the greatest degree.

It's a hypothetical. If God's existence were proved--but you didn't know which god, only that it was some kind of deity--then which religion would you decide to be? I don't know exactly what the question is supposed to establish, but it's just a hypothetical scenario. ("If you went to the movies today, which movie would you see?")

The demonstrable existence of some higher power wouldn't make most of the earthly mythologies any more convincing to me. I wouldn't find myself thinking "Oh, they've discovered something much more powerful than us... the story of the bet surrounding Job's kids suddenly seems so much more likely!".

The question stipulated that the scientists didn't know what form God took, and I didn't give the question much thought and look for ways to frustrate the OP. Therefore, I decided on a peaceful and relatively benign religion.

This is OT, but I love your avatar! Thank you, Maya. Much appreciated. I'm a huge fan of swashbuckler movies; and, if there's anyone who's the king of swashbucklers, it's Errol Flynn!

@graham It's a hypothetical. If God's existence were proved--but you didn't know which god, only that it was some kind of deity--then which religion would you decide to be? But I wouldn't become a member of any religion if god's existence were proved. In fact other than bumming me out somewhat about the fact that there was a god, I don't see how it would change any aspect of my life at all.
