@graham It's a hypothetical. If God's existence were proved--but you didn't know which god, only that it was some kind of deity--then which religion would you decide to be? But I wouldn't become a member of any religion if god's existence were proved. In fact other than bumming me out somewhat about the fact that there was a god, I don't see how it would change any aspect of my life at all. OK, swell, then that's your answer to this hypothetical: "if God's existence were proved, then I still wouldn't join any organized religion." D'accord?

Although I wouldn't join any of the disorganised ones, either.

@graham I gets it, I gets it! I just put the "organized" in there because Mello seems to want a specific church-like institution or organization, as opposed to a general set of principles (e.g., "deism").

I think a more interesting scenario would be if one of the current religions was proved to be correct. Say allah appeared and performed miracles, smote some unbelievers, etc - whatever it takes to prove he was real. How would christians react? Would they all become muslims? Or would they convince themselves that it was a lie by satan or something?

If you accept either as a religion, I'd be either Zen Buddhist or a LaVeyan Satanist, since there's a lot I like about both as it is.

I wouldn't believe in any since none of them make any sense, or at least ones that contradict modern science (which is pretty much all of them). At most I would be a nondenominational deist (which isn't even really that far atheism anyways)
