No one really stands out, but I'll nod to William Holden as the humanitarian doc opposite John Wayne as the aggressive cavalry commander in The Horse Soldiers.

There are probably better characters, but Dr. Rumack from Airplane immediately came to mind. He's hilarious and the line delivery from Leslie Nielsen is gold. I laughed at pretty much every line he said. I already laughed when we first saw him and he was sitting in the plane with the stethoscope.

The ideal young doctor of the late 1930s and early 1940s Lew Ayres as Dr Kildare. 1954. Never a boring case in this hospital. Yes, He was a Doctor too. 1931

teleadm One of my great memories is that, when I was very young, whenever I was sick and in bed, I'd watch whatever old movie was on television--disproportionately Dr. Kildare for some reason. I've no idea why, and I was never all that fond of the series, but the memory has stuck with me ever since. My own, much less-serious contribution here: (The link's to a funny movie-reviewing website.)
