10/10 -- one of the greatest movies, also very funny.. John's mom is probably the funniest actress in film.

5/10 - I know a lot of people love this movie. I, myself, usually love 70s movies, and I wanted to like this one, but I just couldn't. While I admire the unique and experimental filmmaking, to just have all the scenes given over to verbal ramblings and sporadic outbursts of dialogue defeats the basics of clear storytelling. If I'd seen this movie in the 70s or 80s, I probably would've liked it more, but to see it for the first time in 2017, as I did, it was laborious to get through.

Great filmmaking and Gena Rowlands gives one of the greatest performances of all time.

I saw it for the first time in 2005 and like it a lot. It hit me on a deep emotional level but I LOVE experimental non-traditional storytelling. I love Cassavettes style in general. It's 100% captivating imo.

I liked this movie more with each viewing... I could say the same about "Minnie and Moskowitz" (also John Cassavetes, with his wife starring).
