I'm a big Kazan fan and have seen all of his movies, but I had forgotten what a great movie this one was until I happen to see it last night again. IMO, it is one of Dana Andrews' most griping performances. Here is my IMDb review with possible spoilers within: www.imdb.com/title/tt0039208/reviews-57

The courtroom scenes were shot in White Plains, New York. My grandfather was an extra, playing one of the witnesses. (Except for Dana Andrews, Grandpa gave the best performance in the film).

Now. The crucial question. Which juror ? So's we can watch for Grandpa mattgarth ? To the right of the elderly witness with the grey hat that Dana makes reference to. Handsome gentleman -- a family trait.

A terrific film that benefited greatly from Kazan's direction. I particularly loved Dana Andrews' and Arthur Kennedy's performances. They are among my favorites for each actor. It was Kazan's only foray into a documentary style film, and he did it superbly, shooting on location and not allowing an ounce of sentimentality (not that he would do that anyway). [Oh, and in regards to your Oscar nomination thread, here's the scoop on BOOMERANG! - 6 career Oscar nominees and 3 career Oscar winners.) So, you are counting Oscar nominees on both sides of the camera? Here are the only performers I can find Lee J. Cobb (2 nominations) amazingly he didn't get more, like 12 Angry Men & The Three Faces of EveArthur Kennedy (5 nominations) Ed Begley (1 Oscar win) Cara Williams (1 nomination)--I guess she played Kennedy's former girlfriend Karl Malden (1 an Oscar and was nominated for another one) Arthur Miller (1 nomination) was in the lineup scene Now, Kazan won 2 Oscars Richard Murphy was nominated for 2 screenplays (including this one)

So, you are counting Oscar nominees on both sides of the camera? No, I was only counting nominees in front of the camera. I made two mistakes: First, counting Dana Andrews as a nominee. I didn't bother to check it, because I was sure he had been (and so he should have been!). Second mistake was a typo: meant to type 2 career winners, but typed 3 instead; proof-reading on the computer for me sucks. Sorry.
So the correct count is 5 career nominees (Cobb, Williams, Kennedy, Begly, Malden) and 2 career winners (Begly and Malden). Not bad for a small studio picture.
[And I didn't count Arthur Miller, because he was basically an extra, and wasn't really an actor anyway.]

mattgarth . By some miracle is he in this one . Just out of camera range here -- younger, handsomer. Next to elderly man holding grey hat in another scene.

So, that puts Arthur Miller in the same category as Matt's grandpa?

Not quite, Kijii. Grandpa was smarter, better looking, and a better writer than Miller.
If Marilyn had seen Grandpa first, the Garth family tree would have looked a lot different.

Don't be ridiculous, Bat! The QM does not accept or tolerate unsolicited suggest ... wait a minute, that one is pretty good. I wish I had the resources to do and upload a frame grab from streaming video...but, alas. What I can offer is a link to the film on Vimeo - vimeo.com/197837149 - in which a dark-haired guy with rather soulful eyes (sound like him?) can be seen next to just such an elderly gentleman holding a hat, from 1:12:25 to 1:12:29. Could that be he? EDIT: Oops. Link didn't work. Well, if you search Bing video for "Boomerang 1947," it comes up.

Can't you convert a personal picture into a J-Peg or an M-Path or an L-Train or one of those formats that gives it a URL? Hurry. I'm dying to see Matt's Grandpa!

The image file already has a .jpeg extension. I don't understand how that gives it a URL. I know diddly about multipath configurations and have never heard of L-Train (I suppose I could take the A train, but I don't really want to get to Harlem just now). Be gentle with me, jervistetch; remember that on Sunday, you thought I was brilliant...but I've aged so much since then.

I was just joking about the L-Train. No one on Earth knows less about technology than I do. Except for toasters. Give me any toaster and you will shortly be eating the best damn toast you've ever eaten.

Okay, mattgarth, jervistetch, BATouttaheck and all the ships at sea: here goes nothin.' 'Zat Grandpa Garth toward screen right, Matt?
