"It" nearly could have gotten a PG-13 rating like "The Gate"(1987) or "Monster Squad." Those 3 movies all have in common non scary moments of monsters chasing kids but never catching them or causing any harm, so there is barely ever any tension or scares. Don't get me wrong the "It" remake is an okay movie overall, but the tv movie had more scares and was slightly better in a lot of ways.

It was always more of a coming of age story with horror thrown in.

I honestly laughed at a few points, like Ben getting chased by the headless kid. But you raise a good point. I don't champion PG-13 horror, but it would have made sense in this case, and it wouldn't have lost anything without the F bombs and the gratuitous shot of Georgie's stump. It's a horror movie about and for kids, and should be watched by them like I watched the miniseries as a kid.

It was always more of a coming of age story with horror thrown in. There is a reason they all have specific fears. The girl, it's puberty. She was "daddy's little girl" and sexually awakened too early. Puberty scared her. So her fear was blood (period) in her bathroom. The one boy with Placebo meds. His dread was the leper... The man boy, dealing with facing mortality and grieving. Etc... it's all a coming of age story.

It's a coming of age HORROR movie, it isn't a coming of age story with SOME horror thrown in. The more you talk the less I take you seriously.

I don't feel that any film is scary, so this won't be a factor for me.

I laughed at that and other parts that were supposed to be scary, like when the leper said his line to Eddie. This movie is better at emotional moments than horror. Use of CGI also takes away any scary atmosphere.

the Horror in it sucks, which is frustrating because everything else is really good. if the atmosphere and escalation of tension were handled with just a little subtlety it'd probably be my top film of the year.
someone in another thread was questioning whether it even counts as a Horror movie.

Agreed. I think the movie should have deviated from the book and killed off one of the kids during one of the confrontations to create a sense of real danger.

That's what I'd thought they'd done when we see Stan's face in Pennywise's jaw. Only thing in the movie that shocked me because I thought he was dead, but he just got a few bite marks. Might as well have killed him there than have him off himself in the first 10 minutes of 2.

The best horror movies don't just tease deaths, they deliver and earn fear from the audience.

All the supernatural scenes were a massive FAIL I blame the use of CGI.
