Folks, what is the scariest movie you've seen in a theater. For me it was What Lies Beneath. My best friend and I were in the theater's ladies room after seeing it. My best friend noticed that I was paper white and shaking so she asked if I was OK. I managed to squeak that I would be.

What Lies Beneath is fun scary movie. First saw it in the theater. Lots of "jump out of your chair" moments. The scariest movie I ever saw in the theater was the original Halloween movie when I was only 10. My first rated R movie too (what a choice). Scared the crap out of me.

People will scoff at this but for me, Insidious is terrifying. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of horror movies but Insidious was the only one that really creeped me out and made me feel very uneasy. The sequals were terrible but the original is a terrific movie. Other than that, I can't say I've ever seen a movie in a theater that could be considered scary. I guess I'm immune to horror at this point.

Because there will always be some guy telling you that you can't even call yourself a horror fan if you like these "bad mainstream" movies. Besides The Exorcist I would say The Woman in Black, The Conjuring & The Babadook.

Jeepers Creepers scared the sh*t out of me and my husband. He was freaked out totally for at least a couple of days.

The Exorcist and Paranormal Activity. I don't usually watch horror movies at the theater because I don't care for my ear drums being blasted during every jump scare.

I went to see the movie: "Event Horizon" (1997), in the last days of it being in theaters, and no one else wanted to see it when I did so... I had a private showing of the film...
The movie isn't all that scary, but there are some occasional disturbing images, and creepy sounds in the film...
When you are sitting in a dark room, with all this unusual stuff bombarding you... it makes you feel uncomfortable...
I looked around the theater to see if there was another human in the room. It's didn't matter to me if that person was a stranger or not... I just needed to know that I wasn't "Alone"... If there had been at least one other person there to remind me that I was indeed watching a movie, that would have been a welcome relief...
But I was alone. All alone. It was like I was in another reality. I couldn't shake those uncomfortable feelings for the rest of the movie...
When the movie was over, it was such a relief.
I saw two films that day. "Event Horizon" (1997) was the first. The second was some comedy which I can't remember, but I didn't have a private showing for that one. I was not alone. It was such a different experience...a very pleasant one.
As I said, "Event Horizon" (1997) isn't really all that scary, but it was the most scary film I have ever seen in a movie theater... Even if I just let it get the best of me.

I would have to say The Changeling (1980).

Scariest was my first horror movie, Jaws 2 on the big screen, I was eight. Still not over it, really.

The original 'Ring' (which I know is a remake of 'Ringu') really creeped me out. By contrast, I found the sequel almost funny in parts, but mainly just puzzling.

Not a horror movie, but I remember seeing The Land Before Time (1988) as a kid back in the early 90s, and the scene with Cera being a bit too cocky and triumphant over what she think is the dead body of Sharptooth. That shoot of him opening his eye, with Cera bursting towards him, only to realise her mistake too late, as the beast is far from dead. That one made me jump my seat, pretty high up. As this was a tough film to watch when you're 5-6 years old, and I remember it included some rather heavy stuff, with figures dying or being killed, and it went a bit dark and heavy for a children's movie. But I love it.

I wish I could pick one, but I don't get scared by movies in theaters. I think it's because of so many people being in the same room. Too many distractions to keep me into the movie. I much prefer watching movies at home.

Please don't laugh... "I know what you did last Summer" really creeped me out at the time. I was about 13. Watching it over the years makes me realize how corny the movie is.
Also "The Ring" really creeped me out. I was afraid to answer the phone or watch TV for a few days. Silly I know.

The Scariest Movie that I have ever seen in theaters is "ARACHNOPHOBIA". I am still to this day afraid of Spiders!

I saw The Exorcist when it was re-released, it was terrifying. I also saw The Blair Witch Project in theaters...it was pretty scary in that platform too. I'd give anything to relive that experience.

I risk sounding stupid but I'll be honest. The Blair Witch Project scared me to death! I believed that it was real. I know I was stupid but I fell for it. So the movie frightened me to where I had nightmares! When I found out it wasn't real I was pissed! I was so angry. It stupid I was angry they were not really killed. But I felt cheated and lied to. But I got over it. Years later I tried to watch it again and quit in the middle. Way too much cussing.
