There's this site that is basically the new IMDB: www.themoviedb.org/It has message boards to every movie, TV show and actor like IMDB had. And they are making a lot of changes to accommodate ex-IMDM members. Now it has General Message Boards as well and it's gonna have a lot of new other features.

It will take a while, but we're talking an community consisting of thousands of members. It will take years and many hours of shameless self-promotion to come close to IMDbs traffic. The real question is, where are these existing members? After IMDb where did they flock to? Does anyone know? IMDb didn't give us enough time, a two weeks notice is something you give to an employee not a message board user.

Why do you think turnout is so low here? Never more than 80-90 members online at any time. Where'd everybody go? Of the little bit of poking around I did, I found that this is one of the more busy sites to pop up since the great IMDb purge. This place is a lot more busy than some of the others. But if you are saying that none of the replacement sites generate the same type of traffic, I can agree. I am surprised that more people haven't popped up here or on any of the other pages that have attempted to replace IMDb.

The problem is there's no individual boards for movies here. Star Wars Episode 8, Alien: Covenant etc..
The Movie Database will eventually take over unless that changes.

Incidentally, there is a board here for Episode 8. Kinda beside your point, I realize, but -- anyway, we have one and prolly should for the Alien series, too. (Mods?)

Many IMDB members from the IMDB Videogames board are still posting on the IMDB VG forum from Reddit.
Reddit is an absolute garbage.

I know next to nothing about web design, so I'm admittedly talking a bit out of my ass, but there is a clumsiness to browsing TMDB. Not sure if it's the "Flash scripting," or whatever, but it's like too slick by half and tends to be glitchy and annoying for me to browse.

They are making many modifications due to people's advice. And they have created General Discussion Forums! It has Politics, etc.

For me, what sucks the most is losing the obscure boards backlogged with a decade-plus full of posts about things. So if I watch a random, throwaway movie from 1997 I can read various comments and threads that've piled up over the years from people posting about it there. Not sure how to scratch that itch now, especially when I've just seen something strange or evocative or interesting -- for instance, I just watched the Twin Peaks movie, Fire Walk with Me, the other night -- and want to see how others reacted to it. Obviously we can't make boards here for every single movie, show, etc.; seems that aspect of the "IMDb" experience will be lost forever. Hello there coldenhaulfield . If you're interested I just made a new thread for the movie you mentioned above here - " Twin Peaks : Fire Walk with Me " from 1992 . I agree there are a few things I miss from the old too like what you mentioned above here . IMPO - This new board has so much more positive features that the old board never had . ( and even if by crazy chance the old board was back - I would stay here now - this is my new home message board ) . Thanks coldenhaulfield for your reply .

It is much quieter here...so far, at least. But after some of the squabbling I encountered over on the IMDb MB's, I find the atmosphere of this site rather a pleasant change. Same here. I'd much rather have the site "quiet" than overrun by trolls and attention-seekers like the old site was.

I'm so enjoying the serenity and civility of this fine new message board as well .

I don't find that to be that much of a problem. There were too many people to deal with in the IMDB board and some were getting douchey. yeah, that's the word -- douchey.
Many people were nice and made areas nice to be around. some were asstwats. the asstwats were enough to make people leave or post rarely.

I used to visit the boards of just about everything I watch. That's the real tragedy of IMDb, all the lost in-depth discussion about TV and film.
