"We just went over 100,000 posts!" In less than a month. That's pretty alive.

You don't need a million members. As long as those who are here interact fairly regular the site should be enjoyable enough.

For me, what sucks the most is losing the obscure boards backlogged with a decade-plus full of posts about things. So if I watch a random, throwaway movie from 1997 I can read various comments and threads that've piled up over the years from people posting about it there. Not sure how to scratch that itch now, especially when I've just seen something strange or evocative or interesting -- for instance, I just watched the Twin Peaks movie, Fire Walk with Me, the other night -- and want to see how others reacted to it. Obviously we can't make boards here for every single movie, show, etc.; seems that aspect of the "IMDb" experience will be lost forever. Egggggggsackly.

Yeah I know its not the same thing, but why not create a page for it at the appropriate forum on this website?

Just curious here medjay - how could any sub-boards make this site seem bloated ? If i read what the subs are it takes a lot to get from the top to the bottom. Thanks medjay for your reply .

I don't get all the hate for this site recently - of all the sites that started up after the announcement many have already gone, several are barely surviving with the members they have, a few have enough members that they may survive for 6 months This is the only site that has the kind of numbers and activity to continue as a general movie forum Yes there are many dedicated genre forums but they are dedicated to that genre Take this site for what it is, hell in 10 years it could have 10 million members, it's only a few weeks old ffs Outside of reddit what board has that many members? You mean active members?

I'm enjoying this forum quite a bit. I think the word "troll" gets thrown around a bit too much. Not everyone who is an asshole is trolling. They're just being themselves. Besides, trolls and assholes are a part of message board life. I'm non-plussed by why people who don't like it here choose to stick around.

Also the block button doesnt work on here. YOu can still see thier threads- just not thier individual posts. For whatever reason, thread blocking is not an inherent function of ProBoards' blocking system. However, I've added the ability to block blocked members' threads to the privacy settings: Profile > Edit Profile (button) > Privacy (tab) Also, I'm sorry that you feel some members have been banned undeservedly, but I assure you that I am no dictator. I actually think the block feature here is better than the on Oimdb. It gives you the option to do certain things. - Hide this member's posts.
- Do not let this member start new conversations with me.
- Do not let this member follow me or my activities.
- Block notifications from this member.
now, 2, 3 and 4 are checked for you but the first one is blank of the check. if you want to hide their posts as well, put the check in and click BLOCK MEMBER. then, when you get to your PRIVACY SETTINGS WITHIN YOUR PROFILE PAGE and you scroll down and MUST click SAVE PRIVACY SETTINGS at the bottom. it gives you a chance to double check what you want the site to do regarding the blocked member.

As more movies come our way, the bigger it will eventually get. I think it's already good to be honest. Take IMDB for instance, yeah it was hella busy with trolls and a small amount of actual film lovers and I got to say I have already gotten used to it here. Just wait till all the "blockbusters" come out, it will grow even more I presume

It's because this site doesn't tolerate trolls like IMDB did.

I like this site. Thanks to the guys keeping it going. I was an 11 year member at IMDB, under a different name, but pretty much a lurker. Learned a lot about a lot of stuff I liked and a lot about stuff I never even knew I was interested in. Before youTube went massive, IMDB was the rabbit hole I'd fall in when I was interested in stuff...and then 5 hours later I'm learning that a particular director of photography has a specific style based on being left-handed (not referring to anything specific).
I casually visited the boards when I had idle time. I liked it. I like this.

Also kind of disappointed to be honest, which is why I mainly started using another site (moviechat). I still come here every now and then, but honestly every site is pretty fragmented right now. I was hoping it would change after some of the bigger movies came out and people were looking for places to discuss them, but doesn't look like it.

That's because while this site is good for general movie talk it's not particularly good when it comes to individual movie discussion.
Big movies like Logan, Kong and Beauty and the Beast should have their own sub forums. A "discussion thread" isn't really good enough.

Guy with 16 posts is disappointed in this site so he uses moviechat LOLOL. Moviechat is probably better suited for you. It's ok. This forum isn't for everyone. Guy with 16 posts who signed up not even a month ago who was 'last signed in' about an hour after signing up [how the hell could he post the above without signing in???] well, if you aren't here to contribute either way, how can you judge a site?

Big movies like Logan, Kong and Beauty and the Beast should have their own sub forums. A "discussion thread" isn't really good enough. I support you 100% on this one scabab. I campaigned a couple of times from the very beginning to have a dedicated New Release Board for the Major Studio Releases after they open. The Released Movies are now clogging up the Upcoming Movie Boards and stifling the discussions over-there as well. I have had the boot up the wazoo on this one already, best of luck but I suspect that the powers that may be are funneling New Movie traffic elsewhere and don't want to be bothered on this one? This is the #1 site improvement that will attract and keep new members over the spring and summer. It is so easy to do and I am completely perplexed? And what do we get? Self-Awarding Trophies,,,,, If all you're wanting is to split "Now Playing and Upcoming Films" into two different boards, that's no problem, but who's going to move the threads out of Upcoming when they become Now Playing, then out of Now Playing when they are no longer "now playing?" Everything done here is done manually. If you're wanting a board for each new release, I've already explained why that isn't going to happen here. You say it's so easy to do, but what you're asking for is a lot of time and a lot of work and is not at all easy.

Its possible to post 16 times in on hour. And then he signed out. I'm not sure what is confusing you.
