I can see the Syrians potting but can also see the Aussies netting again. In fact, I can't really see a thing because I'm not watching it, but going on first half info I'll go 1-2.

Still 0-1. That's me gone. 11/4 for three or more goals and Syria at threes to score next. Nothing doing.

But wait. One-all. Penalty for tugging in the box. This could set it up nicely for Tuesday's return fixture. It's not over yet, though, with five left on the clock.

One-all then with a late, hotly disputed penalty for Syria. There'll surely be a few more punters at the return leg, but as Captain informed us earlier this game was played in Malaysia

Pretty average game to be fair. Australia dominated the first 60 minutes, before Syria dominated the closing stages when Australia began to look very ragged and tired. Not for the first time, and consistently so recently - Australia cannot convert scoring chances into goals. Hitting the post twice in a single movement at 1-0 up hurt the Australians dearly.
Moving forward, I still expect the Socceroos to qualify for the next phase with a positive result at home. We play far better at home than away, and middle eastern nations especially have an abysmal record away from the Middle East. A simple 0-0 will even suffice, not that I expect in anyway Australia's coaching staff to 'park the bus'. We've long learnt that all it ever does is cost us results and serious hiding against better sides (Brazil 0-6, France 0-6, Germany 0-4 spring to mind)
