I liked it more than the original. Pretty much loved every character other than the Leto character. Long run time, but I didn't mind. The whole thing had such a great tone and it stuck with me afterward and kept me thinking.
But the theater was empty. Don't know where all the fans of the original were at. Methinks there weren't as many fans out there as some would have us believe. Don't think this will be a crowd pleaser either. The public tends to go for lots of action and FX and one liners. This one is a slow burn that requires patience the general audience usually doesn't have.

Even though it'll inevitably drop Blade Runner 2049 now has an 8.7 on IMDb with 32,000 votes. I'm kinda surprised, I didn't expect such a high rating considering that it isn't really a movie made for the general audience.

The soundtrack is different from the original one by Vangelis and some people may not like that, but I just finished listening to the entire soundtrack and I love it. The synth sounds are still the centerpiece of the soundtrack, but they sound darker, dirtier. Especially the 'Wallace' song. It has a spiritual, almost sith-like vibe to it and I can't get those low-pitched choir sounds out of my head. Wallace is such an intersting character. He has little screentime and that shrouds his plan in secrecy, making it even more special when he's actually on screen.

It came in way below box office expectations this weekend. I guess when you make a sequel to a bomb, there's a good chance it will bomb. The original has a cult following but it is relatively tiny so no real surprise.

Just came back from Blade Runner 2049. With all the rave reviews, I thought I was at the wrong movie. It is a big mess. It is beautifully shot, however, the plot is awful and Harrison Ford is AWOL from the movie for the 90 minutes. Yes, 90 minutes goes by and no Harrison Ford. The guy sitting next to me was sound asleep 1 hour in. I told him when he woke up at the end, you didn’t miss a damn thing. Really, really boring….bad plot…no Harrison Ford. Can you imaging a Matrix movie being made with no Keanu Reeves for the 1st 90 minutes? What a mess. 3 out of 10. I want my money back…….. That’s the point though. It’s not a movie about Ford. I mean his character has a story in it too but the movie was never meant to be all about him. You’re looking at this universe in the future and following a different guy with different motivations and his own beautiful story that wrapped up amazingly. Yes he ties in but I love how they did that as well. I think this is how sequels should be done. A completely new perspective. Not retreads like force awakens.

Can you imaging a Matrix movie being made with no Keanu Reeves for the 1st 90 minutes? What a mess. 3 out of 10. I want my money back…….. I would've preferred no Ford. Deckard was 50% fan service and 50% comic relief in this flick. Honestly I didn't like the story at all. 'Find the techno messiah' feels like a plot to a 90s sci fi movie released at the tail end of summer. A lot of the plot points in this movie don't make any sense at all and most of the characters have undefinable motivations. Solid performances and when it comes to atmosphere this flick is second to none. I loved the score and the visuals, but the story itself was filled with missed opportunities. Had I never seen the original, I may not have been bothered as much by where this story went. It just felt lazy and clichéd at times. Despite its flaws I enjoyed the first 2/3rds of the film, but I thought it fell apart once K went to Vegas. Blade Runner was a beautiful disaster that was rewritten, reshot and interfered with by the studio. It ended up being a masterpiece in spite of itself. 2049 comes across as contrived and unnecessary. There are elements to the film I enjoyed thoroughly, yet I find myself thinking more about the creative choices I didn't agree with. I didn't hate it, and on its own its a better-than-decent sci fi flick. But as a continuation of the BR story it doesn't work for me.

It compliments the film in much the same way Vangelis did the first time around. It's obvious they put effort into making it somewhat of a homage to the original and yet still a unique work for this film.

I can't wait to own this on Blu Ray. Checking it out again in theaters when I can so I can pick up on some things I might have missed. This is probably my favorite film of the year so far and I don't see it being topped unless something really under the radar comes along.

It just sucks this won't be a success at the box office. God damn it, the typical moviegoer audience can be so fucking dumb sometimes

God damn it, the typical moviegoer audience can be so fucking dumb sometimes Yeah but we also have to remember that there are a lot of factors in play here. Most people simply don’t understand or know what Blade Runner is, much less care. I mean the original came out 35 years ago and is hardly a pop culture icon like Star Wars. It bombed as well. Long run time, and R rating did not help. I do agree that’s it’s sad though. I feel like this movie is so good that “the last Jedi” will look laughable in comparison science fiction wise.

Very true unfortunately . I keep forgetting that Blade Runner bombed way back in the day as well. Oh well, at least the studio took a chance with 2049 and we got to witness it in all its glory. Damn I love that film!

I'm kinda surprised, I didn't expect such a high rating considering that it isn't really a movie made for the general audience. The smaller the audience, the higher the score. Only hardcore fans of the material are going to bother voting, so the rating will be bloated. I also disagree with the idea that it wasn't made for general audiences. The budget was $150M, that isn't an art house budget. I think they tried very hard to make it for general audiences (why was everything in this world so clean compared to the original; the all star cast, etc.) but BR's reputation for being 'slow and boring' scared people away, especially when they saw the run time for 2049. The original Blade Runner is probably my favorite film, I'd give 2049 a 6 or 7. It's not a disaster but in many ways it is generic, which is something you can't say about the original.

And the worst part is that this is probably the best of the new SW trilogy
