I wound up seeking this out on YouTube because I'd heard it was the first network TV appearance of the rock group KISS. Being a fan of them in that era, and because it's nearly Halloween, I found it and watched it. It's unusual!
I was a little kid back then, but I remember seasonal TV specials, but they must have seemed normal at that time! Or it's only now, in retrospect that they seem odd.
Paul Lynde was a comedian and appeared on Bewitched , that's about all I know about him. His maid, Margaret, invites him to join her and her sister at their place for Halloween. The sister is a witch and Margaret the maid morphs into the Wicked Witch of the West, played by the actual Margaret Hamilton. Betty White plays another witch, Donny & Marie appear, Florence Henderson sings a disco song, Tim Conway looks uncomfortable, and KISS perform three songs. It's such a strange hodge-podge that I wound up liking it quite a lot, it's such a time capsule from that era. So much better than that trippy Stars Wars Holiday Special.
EDIT: Found another version of this on YouTube. Halloween has been saved this year!

Sounds cool.... linkage ? I'm at work on my tablet at the moment, I will definitely add it as soon as I can. Easy to find though, just type in the title of this thread. It's only about 50 minutes.

Wow, Witchiepoo from H.R. Pufnstuf and The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz on the stage together in the same scene! What a treat!

Enjoyed all of the KISS performances, but the 2nd one was my favorite. Beth is such a beautiful song.

I still have very vivid memories of watching it when it first aired. I started following KISS shortly after their first album came out. By 1975, I was always going as a KISS member for Halloween--usually as Peter.

Yeah, drums were my first instrument--I started playing in 1968, when I was only six years old, and they're still my #1 instrument I'd say (I also play bass and keyboards and dabble a bit on guitar). My parents put up with a lot of noise, and our house was usually the practice location for bands I was in.

Paul Lynde was very funny guy. He was the center square in the original Hollywood Squares and he had his own sitcom in the early 70s, The Paul Lynde Show. And of course he was great as Uncle Arthur in Bewitched. Sadly, he left us all too soon.

I saw this when it first aired and I never forgot it. Over the years I have found myself thinking about it quite often. Seasonal tv special were quite a thing back then and much better than the stuff on these days.
