That would make sense. I don't think it really matters though does it?
Honestly I never cared about the whole idea that aliens wouldn't speak English, because how annoying would every alien film be if we had to have learning language scenes or constant translator explanations. It's just one of those things you roll with.

This is hardly new for the films or just in sci-fi in general its the same for most Trek shows and movies, most warp capable species have universal translators implanted, this is even a point at times in the shows.
The Quill not speaking English part is dumb though, unless this tech is new or rare which seams doubtful seeing how most of them seem to have it, which means Quill would have been given one when he was young so he could interact with others easier, this means he wouldn't need to learn new languages so he would simply continue speaking English, though he maybe very basic in terms of his English reading skills due to having to learn alien languages in the written form and not needing to use English all that much.
The translator thing kind of makes certain moments funnier if you think there maybe time where the translator doesn't work due to a persons native tongue not having a direct translation, like in Star Trek where Klingons will speak entire conversation in English but then say just 1 or 2 Klingon words because there is no English translation for those words exactly, makes peoples bewilderment to Quill more understandable sometimes he is literally talking a different language to them.

Holy shit, that’s cool. I hate it when aliens just speak English. Although it makes more sense then aliens speaking any other human language, because other countries aren’t as smart as us lol

So the Engineer in Prometheus should have woken up and said ‘who are the fuck are you guys?’

Very smart indeed.

I thought it was established that, even though a person is speaking English, they are speaking their own language. Except when they are speaking to or in the presence of a native English speaker. Sometimes they go the extra mile like Klingons on Star Trek. Also, wasn't it shown that Quill got a translator in the 1st movie? It might have said that in the link, but my tablet won't let me go to it.

So the Engineer in Prometheus should have woken up and said ‘who are the fuck are you guys?’ It depends on what type of movie you're going for obviously. I never said every alien film should ignore it. Prometheus is an attempt at a realistic "what if this really happened" type of view, so obviously they wouldn't have aliens speaking english. Mainline comics are more fun adventures and aren't trying to bog themselves down with stuff like that, and they shouldn't. It's the same reason Star Trek and Star Wars don't worry about things like that.

It's the window we are looking through to see the movie. It changes the language for the region it's shown in. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
