I think that "INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM" is a Pretty Fun Movie from Start to Finish.

Sickeningly underrated. Has the most adventure and the best villain. I'll never understand the hate this movie gets.

I'll never understand the hate this movie gets. I enjoy the film, but it's also got some major flaws and I understand the criticisms towards it.
My issues:
1.) Poor pacing - After the initial opening in Shanghai and the life raft escape, the film just stalls for too long with exposition and slapstick comedy. Raiders and Crusade did a better job of balancing the action sequences and fitting them between story points. They both took their time establishing the characters and what was driving both the heroes and villains. ToD isn't as well-structured and we don't even meet its villains, the Thuggees until an hour into the film. This makes the film feel very unbalanced.
2.) Lack of a compelling treasure hunt - One of the things I liked about the other films is that Indy's actively searching the respective artifacts and along the way, he has to crack clues and decipher maps thus leading him to his next destination (even Crystal Skull got this right). In ToD, the Sankara Stones aren't all that interesting (they...glow and burn when chanted at?) and Indy doesn't do much to find them; all he does is accidentally stumble into a passageway, then all he needs to do is snatch them from an altar and go through a series of action sequences for the rest of the film. They never even have the Thuggees get all five stones so the battle has no sense of urgency. It makes the film very slight in the story department.
3.) Willie Scott - I hate to beat a dead horse, but man, Willie is easily my least favorite of the Indy heroines. I get that they wanted to do something different from Marion Ravenwood, yet Willie is the complete opposite. She complains and screams throughout the film, thus creating one of the most demeaning roles for a female character ever. Kate Capshaw deserved better material.
Now having said all that, I find things to like in ToD: Harrison Ford is awesome and Short Round is fun (I'm not bothered by him as much as others). I like the action sequences like the Club Obi-Wan bit, the spiked room, the mine cars and the bridge. Despite being underutilized, Amrish Puri is great as Mola Ram and I like how the film's darkness gets intense in the second half.

Okay, fair enough. I still think it's a very underrated movie. But yeah, Willie was annoying as hell and easily the worst female lead in an Indy film. I didn't like Short Round all that much either.

It has my favorite intro.
I think it felt a bit staged and lacked the grand scale of the other two, but I thought it had the same spirit as the other ones in contrast to the 4th one.

Second best of the franchise as far as I'm concerned. It took the idea of Indiana Jones in a bit of a different direction and made it darker and more strange. It is one of the most entertaining movies ever made. Great score, great production values and Harrison Ford is awesome as Indy yet again.
There is only one thing I dislike about the movie and that is the annoying Willie Scott character.
8/10

Temple Of Doom has been much-maligned over the years, but it's still a worthy entry in the franchise. Good to see a lot of people like it. It does have its flaws, but still delivers the goods with lots of exciting thrills.
