I thought of this while watching the coach in Ken Loach's Kes (1969).
I've already considered Mommie Dearest (1981) where Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford beats her daughter in a swim race. And Bad Words (2013) where Jason Bateman enters a spelling bee.
There are probably multiple answers to this. TIA!

This belongs on the Lists & Recommendations board. No. This was specifically placed on this board to help me remember a film or some films that were similar to this scene: Thanks so much to the people who answered so far. I think Billy Madison was one of them. I always think of this scene whenever someone mentions that film: I haven't seen The Benchwarmers but thanks for the suggestion. I didn't have the podracing scene in mind but thank you for taking the time to answer.

You're looking for recommendations of movies you may have seen, not a specific film or question that you're seeking the answer for. I was a longtime contributor to IMDb's I Need to Know forum and know exactly what I'm talking about. Admit you were wrong and take this conversation to Lists & Recommendations where it belongs.

Although not a movie, Competitive Dad, played by Simon Day, was one of the regulars in UK comedy series The Fast Show.

Oh, for a second there, I thought this was about parents actually BEATING their kids at a competition. You know, like Joanie did with the wire hangers.

I'm glad to learn some cultural information I haven't come across before. I'm trying to remember some specific films, however. Which is what is said in the lead-in to this board: " This is the place to post those film/tv/video/etc trivia questions you DON'T know the answers to." I don't know the answers and it's ridiculous to say I'm looking for recommendations for films I've already seen. I'm simply trying to remember what movies have those scenes. I don't see how that is "off-topic" at all.

This belongs on the Lists & Recommendations board. kaasa, We generally don't move off topic threads. That explains why the I Need To Know board is cluttered with off topic crap. About 25% is on topic, the rest should be moved or originally posted elsewhere. I'm getting tired of having to wade through off topic crap to get to actual INTK content. I agree with Kasaa. Others have made the same point, but we are being drowned out.

I don't care what you think. jack724, I don't care for your rude attitude. Who cares? You guys are being rude to HIM for making a topic. Stop acting high and mighty on an internet forum and calm down (especially that guy demanding he take his topic elsewhere) jeez.

I'm calm and wasn't being rude. As for your high and mighty accusation, thank you! I'm 5"5 and appreciate your compliment. Our contention is really about the ratio of off topic vs on topic threads on this board. Lets focus on that instead. I also recall user Watchitmovie making the same point. So that's 4 vs 2 against you so far. I also notice today the Admin is making an effort to reduce the clutter.
Kasaa was right to suggest that the correct board for a list of films containing a particular scene or trope is indeed the Lists & Recommendations board. Such a stance was common on the old IMDB I Need To Know Board. Regulars from there would roundly support such a sentiment, it happened a lot and helped reduced clutter. Kasaa was indeed correct. Such a request belongs on the "Lists & Recommendations" board, since it is a LIST of things the poster wants to know exist in many films, not one specific film as is the usual case on INTK. You may not have been a regular on the old board so you may not have the proper context to judge what Kasaa wrote. Jack's reply to Kasaa was rude, abrupt in that it was not accompanied with any explanation and makes it harder reduce clutter on this board.

So that's 4 vs 2 against you so far. 5 vs 2 now, although there are many more egregious examples. Most effective way to put a stop to it is not for moderators to move posts but simply to delete them with a comment saying "posted in wrong forum". They should start with the most blatant and irresponsible examples and gradually tighten up as the months pass. As members begin to be aware of the "posted in wrong forum" examples they will start to think before posting. I am not specifically commenting on the OP here, which was hardly an offensive example.
