From the article: What say ye? Me, I don't really get why girls want to be in the Boy Scouts. Is there something wrong with the Girl Scouts? Seems like they do pretty much the same things as the Boy Scouts. There are some reasons given in the article, but they seem vague and not particularly compelling (because it's convenient? really?). That being said, if the girls really want to join and the B.S. are OK with it, who am I to object?

Bad idea, but if the Boy Scouts are going co-ed, they should just call themselves the Scouts, and let the Girl Scouts run rampant with their sexism by excluding boys.

As long as they drop the Boy part of their title I don't care. It's confusing to have girls in Boy Scouts. Just call them Scouts.
That's about as much as it affects my life.

i'm for anything that allows boys to discover all things feminine. this will help the homosexuals among the scouts to feel more comfortable with themselves. and lord knows a complete uniform over haul has been needed for that organization for decades. and everyone knows when homo meets girl the colors start poppin' as the hooker jokes they keeps a droppin'.
of course the christians will now claim that the scouts were ordained by their spirit father before the foundations of the world, to be a guiding light in the darkness. yada yada yada.

No one seems to fuss about the YMCA having members that are not young, male or Christian. I'm sure scouting can be the same.

Why have "the Boy Scouts" and "the Girl Scouts", why not just have "the Scouts"?

Why would discovering feminine things help homosexuals feel more comfortable with themselves? why? why are boys subjected to playing with toy guns and drooling over violent video games? did i say toy guns? i would have much preferred dolls and the like while i was growing up. flower arranging as opposed to propping up toy soldiers.

Why would discovering feminine things help homosexuals feel more comfortable with themselves? why? Why did I ask? I was curious why you would make that assumption. They generally aren't. Typically those that like those things seek them out, and those that don't, don't. I don't like violent video games and I never have. Or virtually any video games, really. So I don't buy them or play them, and the problem is solved. Yes you did, when you brought it up for some weird reason in that last sentence there. See above? That's nice for you. Getting back to the question... why would discovering feminine things help homosexuals feel more comfortable with themselves?

Getting back to the question... why would discovering feminine things help homosexuals feel more comfortable with themselves? social engineering is a tool. a tool gleefully used and unfortunately abused by myriads of societies worldwide. and enabling those who define themselves as homosexual to be around all manner of expression(s) is one key to raising aware and healthy kids.

We have had girl scouts for like 30 years.
It's great, much better that girls have the option, Girl guides is shit.

Why would it be necessary to let the girls enter the Boys'Scouts, when there is already the Girls' Scouts?!?!

Eh. I was a scout. Can't really muster up any outrage, here - I don't think some nearby vaginas would have made the camping trips or woodworking sessions any less enjoyable.
It does seem a bit odd that the Girl Scouts should continue to be a separate entity, though... maybe they'll fold them together.

I'm assuming they're going to drop the "boy" part? Is it the Gender Neutral Scouts now?

From the article: What say ye? Me, I don't really get why girls want to be in the Boy Scouts. Is there something wrong with the Girl Scouts? Seems like they do pretty much the same things as the Boy Scouts. There are some reasons given in the article, but they seem vague and not particularly compelling (because it's convenient? really?). That being said, if the girls really want to join and the B.S. are OK with it, who am I to object? From a scout leader living in a country where antidiscrimination laws forced scouts to allow girls to join: The program of scouts and girl guides (what girl scouts is called here) depends very much on parents who are recruited as leaders. Those leaders will organise activities based upon their own skills and interests. Male leaders are more likely to organise outdoor activities and especially physically demanding activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, abseiling than female leader, who are more likely to have indoor activities such as cooking and crafts and other less physical activities. This leads to girls groups having different programs to boys groups. Many girls here prefer scouts because of that, and the Human Rights Commissioner appointed to decide when some girls wanted to join boy scouts here, agreed that here was an area where girls were being discriminated against by being prevented from joining an organisation that was inherently more outdoors and more physically challenging. After a 10 year period of adjustment we have a smoothly running scouting organisation, distinctly different to girl guides but complementary, and where girls are not just welcome but feel comfortable. Of course there are adjustments. No tent sharing, no children to be alone with a leader, all childrens activities to be in groups (patrols). Boys and girls together learn socialising and hierarchies in a different way to the schoolyard, because equality is strictly enforced and bullying monitored.
