when they don't even make them on dvd's?
Hulu just added a whole slew of 90's TGIF shows and I was just wondering how they got access to all the episodes...
I am watching Perfect Strangers now and I remember Netflix having the dvd of only the first season. they never released the other seasons on dvd.
and they also have step by step which to this day does not have any seasons on dvd.. they have this top ten dvd but that is it.
I am just interested... how can they get the season episodes when no on else can?

Money, plenty of shows streaming only, the dvd market has collapsed, they generally just put out top shows now, I need Alf online.

My biggest problem is the show Malcolm in the Middle. Netflix just removed it from streaming and only season 1is readily available to the US public. You CAN get all the seasons through Amazon but beware all those are REGION 2 (Great Britain/Europe) I find that absolutely disgraceful and pathetic that Americans can't have access to their country's own show.
Netflix can SUCK IT.

it's because of music and other forms of copyrighted material used on the shows.
Copyright wise, Streaming is very similar to syndication and music and other copyrighted things used on a show, the rights aren't always affected by syndication or streaming. And Syndication and Streaming rights are different than Physical format rights and easier to obtain.
This is why the Drew Carey Show can be on Laff and Bernie Mac show can be On Bounce and netflix (even though it left recently), yet as for dvd, both shows only had the first season released.
You gotta keep in mind, shows that existed before DVD did, they couldn't obtain a license to publish the music they used onto dvd if dvd didn't even exist yet, so only a license for broadcast and syndication were obtained.
This is why newer shows like Big Bang Theory can have dvd and blu-ray season sets just months after it finishes on broadcast - they obtain the license to put it on physical format the same time they obtain the broadcast license.
But those older shows from the 90s and below (before tv shows on dvd were a thing), it's a pain in the butt financially to re-obtain the license for the music or other copyrighted material used.
This is why We'll never see The Muppet Babies on dvd. all those clips of movies and other shows the cartoon used. I could only imagine a complete series set costing at least 300 dollars retail at the least.
And if the studios are worried about low sales, then that's what the MOD (manufactured/made on demand) route is for - to make a copy only when the customer actually wants it.

Alf was streaming on amazon prime a couple years ago but like any show on stream or syndication, contracts expire and as for the dvd, get it from germany and download vlc player and watch it on the computer. Alf on DVD in the US is all syndicated edits. it's uncut in germany. i ordered this from amazon.de (amazon germany) www.amazon.de/Alf-Die-komplette-Serie-DVDs/dp/B009P4URJG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1508458864&sr=8-1&keywords=alfTook about 3 weeks to get here. It sucks only being able to watch it on my laptop with vlc player (which is region free) but it beats having syndicated edits

I have a portable DVD player. Pyle View which takes regions 1-4. Many good (but not great) britcoms are sold in region 2.
