The Qu'ran has passages about peace, and passages about war. It is non-linear in progression, and also abrogates itself as it goes along which can mean earlier sense and teaching is revised. Muslims, like all of us, consist of a mixture of good and bad. So I doubt if a straight yes-or-no answer is possible.

I interact with tons of Muslims on daily basis and almost all of them seem to be very nice and polite people. Though there may certain aspects in those people that may not be good. For example - taking their imams too seriously. I used to hate Muslims and in fact I was a bigot once upon a time. But my views have changed in last few years.
Islam is non-living thing so it's tough to say if it is peaceful or not. It depends a lot on followers, their economic conditions, level of enlightenment, past reforms and interactions with outside world. A lot of reform is needed in Muslim world and so there is a lot of room for Islam to generate more moderate versions of itself. The role of western countries has been to continuously create conditions that don't lead to stability in Muslim world. Though Muslims also have a role in their current plight.

An uncomfortable fact is that Muslims are the most numerous victims of Muslim religious-based violence. I doubt the MSM will want to play this up, however, any more than they want to play up the fact that blacks are the most numerous victims of black criminals in my country. It just isn't divisive enough to suit their abominable agenda. |

Depends on how we're defining our terms. Does peace rule out the possibility of violence?
When determining whether a belief system is inherently violent or not, I try to look at what the founder preached, how his earliest followers behaved, and what their cultural context was. And in that regard, no, Islam is not particularly peaceful. Thankfully though, most Muslims today don't behave like Muhammad and his followers did. However, there is a significant minority that do, and that's a problem.
