There's a very silly thread going on here about '90s Brit music. You know how silly it is? Oasis is being crowned as the best band of the '90s. Oasis, for fuck's sake! Let's sing along: "And after all, you're my wonderwall" My God, how big of a schmuck must you be to like that crap? So, let's do this right. Best music of the '90s...American. The list is tremendous: Nirvana Pearl Jam Metallica Soundgarden Alice In Chains Chilli Peppers Beastie Boys Jane's Addiction Wu-Tang Clan Smashing Pumpkins Wow. Those silly Brits put up Oasis or Suede. So who do you go with? Best American band of the '90s? Without question....Pearl Jam. Yeah, everybody owns a copy of "Ten," but their best stuff was a few albums after that. "Yield" (which you stupidly never bought) is their masterpiece.

90s rock is probably my favorite genre of music. I prefer Alice in Chains to Pearl Jam, but they are both in my top ten favorite bands of all time. I definitely agree with Marco's list.
As for Pearl Jam, I love Yield, but I still feel that Vitalogy is their best album. Not for You, Tremor Christ, Nothingman, Better Man, Immortality, etc. All classics.

Saw Jane's Addiction in 91' and man those junkies could play live. The crew I was with saw them in the late 80's and stated they sounded better, then.

I own Yield. And yes, it is my favourite Pearl Jam album.
Anyway, Your list pretty much sucks. You're missing Pavement, Beck, Foo Fighters AND Weezer.

Used to listen to many on there growing up in the 90s. Alice in Chains was one of my favorite bands. They've got some dark stuff just like Cash with Country. Nutshell. Terrific. Will make you want to slit your wrists but it's terrific: Alice In Chains - NutshellGot Me Wrong? From Clerks? Terrific again. 2 of my favorites if you're in that mood to just zone out and fall asleep. Alice in Chains - Got Me WrongGood list. Smashing Pumpkins and Corgan are truly underrated. Used to run to Cherub Rock: Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub RockPeppers were great with so many classics: Red Hot Chili Peppers - SnowBeasties (although I disagree with some of their political views) were always a blast to listen to: Beastie Boys - So What'cha WantWu Tang? I'll go with a member in ODB (RIP) with Brooklyn Zoo: ODB - Brooklyn ZooGreat list

George Strait Alan Jackson Brooks and Dunn Brooks and Dunn are great. Never thought I'd like country. Didn't they 'retire' like a decade ago but are still making the rounds on 'comeback' tours like a lot of other bands? Indian Summer is terrific. Always makes me think of summer winding down and football starting up: Brooks and Dunn - Indian Summer

Yes, at least those guys went into the studio to make melodies, and not just go into the studio to thrash their guitars as loudly as they could like the patients of an asylum might.

A Tribe Called Quest, Beat Happening, Bikini Kill, the Goats, Mobb Deep, and Mudhoney for me. Your taste in music is almost as shite as your trolling, but you're right-ish about the Wu-Tang Clan. The first two albums were a bit messy, and some of their solo work is better, but they're probably worth a mention. mobb deep - apostle's warning. good stuff. Mobb Deep - Apostle's WarningAnd Tribe is legendary

As for Pearl Jam, I love Yield, but I still feel that Vitalogy is their best album. Not for You, Tremor Christ, Nothingman, Better Man, Immortality, etc. All classics. Yeah, but "Vitalogy" also has absurd time-wasters (and indicators that the band steeped into the pretentious zone) with the following "songs": "Aye Devanita," "Pry To," "Bugs," and "Hey Foxymophandle...." That's four idiotic experimental songs at a total of 15 minutes. Heck, The Beatles had "Revolution #9," but it was one song on a double album set; Pearl Jam put FOUR of these time wasters on one album! For that reason, no way can "Vitalogy" be considered a masterpiece. Let me ask you, when was the last time you had a desire to listen to "Pry To"? Yes, "Vialogy" has some of Pearl Jam's best moments ("Last Exit" at times is my favorite Pearl Jam song), but, man, look at "Yield." Top to bottom that is an incredibly solid and fantastic album. We all know that the millions and millions of people that bought "Ten" disappeared after "No Code." Pearl Jam to those "fans" was the hot flavor of the month and they left the bandwagon disappointed in the direction the band took. Unfortunate for them because if they stuck around for "Yield" they sure would have loved it. "Yield" is a Pearl Jam album for everyone - hardcore fans and casual music fans. It's a great album.

Sublime
Rage Against the Machine
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Kula Shaker
Rancid
Better Than Ezra
Weezer
Bush
Everclear
Space Hog
Space Hog might be known almost exclusively for "In The Meantime," but what a song to be remembered by. Chili Peppers classics always stand the test of time. Better Than Ezra has done some ridiculously good work, like their album "How Does Your Garden Grow?" which is a mix of psychedelic and southern rock.
Speaking of psychedelic, Kula Shaker remains criminally underrated. Lots of people know "K," but they don't know "Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts."
Sublime has spawned an entire genre of rock-reggae stoner bands from Cali, not all of them very good. Weezer is...well, Weezer. And people sleep on Rancid, especially the album "Let's Go," and the non-singles from "And Out Come The Wolves."
On the hip hop side of things:
Pete Rock Large Professor Wu Tang Brand Nubian Illmatic era Nas Big Pun Big L Early Mobb Deep before they fell off Heltah Skeltah/Ruck/Sean Price Ras Kas Chino XL

Sublime Rage Against the Machine Red Hot Chili Peppers Kula Shaker Rancid Better Than Ezra Weezer Bush Everclear Space Hog Bush were British. Admittedly they didn't sound very British the way they thrashed their guitars like deranged animals, and they had no success in Britain, but they were definitely British! So too were Kula Shaker (who were quite highly rated amongst critics here in UK) and Space Hog
