Than episode 7? I think the purpose of TFA was to re introduce to people what star wars use to feel like before the prequels, although many criticized it for being too similar to episode IV, I am ok with it as long as the next one goes along its own path. So basically, as a setup for a new series, i'm ok with it.

That's how I feel. TFA did its job of "bringing Star Wars back", but now it's time to go into some fresh directions. I'm nervous about Last Jedi because it looks like a hodgepodge of Empire and Jedi. Then JJ is back for 3, and he's never made an original movie in his life.

I don't know if I'd use that term "weirder", but I'd want it to be more original, risk-taking, more exploration of the Star Wars universe, etc.

I just want a good story and good characters and quality acting. The last Star Wars film (Rogue One) had none of those.

Yes. I think you’re right. TFA is a safe film. I think the TLJ will be more dynamic. Then with episode 9 and JJ returning, episode 8 may be the strongest film of the series.

TFA never needed to be a "safe film". I don't understand that logic.

TFA never needed to be a "safe film". I don't understand that logic. Because they needed to reintroduce to people how they should feel about star wars: Re-establish the star wars world, hit a bunch of familiar beats to ease people into it, have all these new and interesting characters, and now they can go and do their own thing. That's what I think was their plan. However if the next is all call backs, and is like really similar to empire or something, that would make me like the Force Awakens less.

It would be profoundly disappointing if all Disney wanted to do with this new trilogy is just call backs and rehashing.

I'd be fine if it were weirder--Hell, I'd be happier than a pig in shit if Jan Svankmajer would direct it, but I'm fine if they do it they way they've been, too. I've loved all of the Star Wars films so far.

Its Star Wars, the sky is the limit. Ideally, I want a risky, unpredictable, and ambitious film. I hope we get it.

Yes. If episode 9 feels like TFA, they've failed imo. I also hope there's less iron clad closure with the trilogy. If they're going to keep making these movies, don't box them in on themselves.
