Because studios think- wrongly - that cinematic universes = surefire money making machine. Now they're planing to make a Pacific Rim cinematic universe too. Is that what they're thinking? I thought it just lucked out and got a sequel. If the sequel makes money, yes, it's the plan.

I want to see the Dark Universe come to fruition. It could work if they hire the right talent and manage it properly. "Dracula Untold" was a total dud. I personally enjoyed "The Mummy" but it got a mixed reception. If they remember that this is not a superhero universe and stick to the gothic horror they could be successful.
