Far as I can tell he was fairly worthless. Far too soon to tell. He's yet to come back into the sphere of nostalgic revival. I know I appreciated him and found his take on life liberating.

What did he do? Did he write a great article or poem or scientific study? Was he related to JJ Thompson who came up with that ridiculous model of the atom?

I'm not sure it's down to your criteria. Did Andy Warhol or Jackson Pollack do anything great? Very debatable. Yet, they still remain relevant in discussions of art. Hunter S. Thompson will probably be hanging around in discussions along side Kerouac and Pirsig, love it or hate it.

Welcome to my next thread. More of a Bouguereau and Vibert fan so you won't get much argument from me there as to quality. That said, still relevant.

He was actually pretty brilliant and very entertaining. He was a unique voice and from everything I've read or seen he was the same guy he was in his essays and interviews. Not a fake persona. I know you're just a sad lonely troll but to answer your question of course he was relevant.

He shone a light on Kentucky. That's something I guess. He also got his ass kicked by some Hells Angels. He intervened when one of them started beating his dog. Up until then he was just beating his woman, which was fine.
