The presence of gay characters don't sexualize movies any more than straight characters do. People like to see characters like themselves in fiction for some reason. Gay characters do let gay kids (or more accurately, gay teens, because I don't know if kids even have orientations) feel better, because it makes them feel more "normal". Then why change the character in the first place? It makes no sense whatsoever unless it's simply to push an agenda and using a movie Disney knows will be successful to secure a vast audience. If it isn't 'sexualizing' then why bring it up at all? No reason not to, as I said. It doesn't hurt anything. No one is trying to "push agendas". Some characters are just gay. The only ones who have a negative impact are those conservatives who make a big deal out of nothing. |

If they made Belle a dude and the Beast gay, that would be a silly change. The outrage from the pearl-clutchers would be hilarious, though. |

actually, I find most of the people who DO believe in that God have been brainwashed. and I am Roman Catholic. you have to put the bible down and see the world for what it really is. most wars were created because of religion. most religions are intolerant of other views and things that 'go against' that religion. most terrible things in this world are BECAUSE OF RELIGION! not just Catholicism/Christianity -- all religion.
there is a reason why politics and religion are social nono's. you are guaranteed to piss at least one person off.
that being said, I agree that it is not appropriate for kids movies and tv shows to have a gay character. Family movies I have a somewhat different approach to because at one point, families actually watched things together. that way parents could explain anything that needed explaining. now parents use these things as babysitters.
I work in an elementary school and we have those it's okay to be LGBT posters all over the place. I have no problem with it being outside on the floors where the upper grades are but I have a problem with it being right by where the kindergarteners and pre kindergarteners are. they should not even know what these things mean at that age!
with things like sexual orientation comes that word: sex. something else a 4 year old just. shouldn't. know. about.
