Actually I think The Last Samurai was better than all of them. I don't think it's better than any of the LoTR films but yeah, it's gotta be one of the most underrated films ever. I agree that it's not better than The Fellowship of the Ring. (I was only referring to The Return of the King.)

Actually I think The Last Samurai was better than all of them. I believe it was a different eligibility actually. As for the best picture win I also would choose something else. I'm not sure what you mean by a different eligibility. Do you mean the year? Ken Watanabe from The Last Samurai was nominated for best supporting actor the same year that Return of the King won best picture. So that means The Last Samurai was eligible that year, but failed to receive a nomination for best picture.

The Room. I mean Tommy Wiseau let the movie in theaters for 2 weeks in order to qualify for the Oscars.
On a serious note: i'm fine with Return of the King. I wasn't a fan of the theatrical cut, but the extended made it my favorite LOTR movie

Yes, or at least the extended edition is. I feel it's the darkest and most character driven, with the best battle sequence in Helm's Deep. I also enjoy the pacing more. Fellowship takes awhile to get going, and King of course takes awhile to end, while Towers as a middle point is always moving. It also helps that Gollum is one of my all time favorite characters (let alone favorite LOTR characters), and this is essentially his movie.I have 2 questions: 1. What did you like better about Helm's Deep compared to Pelennor Fields? 2. Let me guess. 'Gollum's Song' is your favorite ending song from Middle-earth saga?
1. The setting and grittiness mostly. 2. media.giphy.com/media/U1XhGr8CWqvVC/giphy.gif
