  Why Not?

Because they're lowest-common-denominator garbage made like sausage for the adoring and soul-dead masses, and the R rating cuts into the massive profits Disney rakes in, very little of which trickle down to Marvel at all, much less the artists struggling to make a living in the industry and create new content for Disney to sanitize and bastardize.

Why Not? In which MCU film would an R-rating have been necessary? I can't think of a single one that needed to be "R" to do what the filmmakers wanted out of it.

If Spider-Man had been made into a movie based on the earliest drafts of the screenplay, it would have been rated R. It has bad language and sex in it. It's pretty weird.

Iron Man 3, Shane Black does better with R-rated material Except there's absolutely nothing about Ironman 3 that requires an R-rating, and anything to beef the rating up would be superfluous to the story and its theme.

That overblown, effects-driven one with the shoddy plotting, hipster dialogue, tons of explosions, and very little overarching payoff; yeah, I can't narrow it down either! (*rimshot*)

Its THEME?! What, praytell, was the theme of Iron Man 3? How would you compare it to, say, the theme of The Scarlet Letter, Shindler's List, or The Things They Carried? You know, similarly Serious Works of Art.

The movie version of Scarlet Letter was atrocious, I stay away from Holocaust movies and I've never seen Things They Carried. Really, this argument is like saying Lord of the Rings had to be rated R.

This sort of antisocial, childish behavior only proves that you're an intellectual insect with terrible taste in movies. And a stupid avatar. And I was referring to the NOVEL The Scarlet Letter, the MOVIE Schindler's List, and the longform TV MINISERIES The Things They Carried as a point of sarcasm at "weirdraptor" talking in such comical and ludicrous terms about a Disney movie called "Iron Man 3." It doesn't have a theme, you blockheads. Its "theme" is make money for Disney and RDJ. Yeesh.

You're wasting your time. This guy has no interest in engaging intelligently with you. He'll just insult you any way he can and then act like you're the childish one if you decide not to play his game.

Those are interesting and applicable themes. Thanks for pointing them out. This is the one where has the period panic attacks, yeah? How do you s'pose those factor in? What about the Mandarin?

Nah, that was James Cameron's so-called scriptment (where Raimi got the organic web shooters from). That was way before MCU. Back then Marvel had plenty of R-rated films; Blade, Punisher, Conan (they were associated with that movie, whether it is truly Marvel or not), Daredevil DC, (even now they still have R-rated stuff such as Kick Ass). They were going to let Cameron do it, (no surprise coming off T2 they'd be nuts to pass), but after all the legal BS finally cleared he moved onto to Titanic and lost interest.

The panic attacks were symbolic of him realizing how BIG the Universe he lived in really was, it's basically like finding out your whole world was just a blade of grass in a forest. He's desperate to maintain some level of control over his life despite this realization leading to all the extra armors and the panic attacks. It's only when he's reminded that Tony Stark is what made Iron Man worth anything that he's able to power through it. The PTSD is still there in AOU and Civil War if you think about it. Mandarin is exactly what I meant about people being more willing to fear some random foreign thing rather than realize it's the faults in their own society they should be paying attention to.

Do you think the Mandarin worked effectively to this end in this film, or they could've done a better job with him on this front? Both the character and the actor received some of the worst backlash I've seen against a Marvel movie. So naturally he was my favorite part of the flick lol
