The only actor I can think of who was vaguely similar was Erik Portman, another Yorkshireman who specialised in "authoritative" roles with a "posh" voice overlaying his Yorkshire accent. He too could convey charm and menace simultaneously. But whereas I can imagine Mason playing many of Portman's roles successfully, the reverse is not the case. Portman always conveyed uprightness, but Mason had a more slippery, elusive quality. Not surprising that he was mad on cats. That's true, I have been accused of talking "posh" a few times and it's rarely intentional.
