Good scripts being ruined by poor direction? While we're at it, what are the best examples of mediocre scripts elevated by great direction?

High and Low. Decent script, great direction.
Inkaar. Pretty good script by 70s Bollywood standard. Mediocre direction. But the cast (Khanna, Lagoo, Amjad Khan) does elevate it to an extent with their performances.
Hurdy Gurdy will beg to disagree, though.
Even Yojimbo has a mediocre script by Kurosawa standards. It's mostly great direction and acting.
