Saw it on Fri. A little surprising.
Liked it. Would say a 6.5/10 or C+. The guy behind the camera (Christian Gudegast) really has some technical talent, unlike Najafi from London Has Fallen (who recently directed Proud Mary). Spectacular sound. The climax is orgasmic.
Probably at least 20 minutes too long, however. No female characters of note. Didn't completely bother me that the movie only has two set pieces, but this could have probably used an extra one in the middle.
Standouts are O'Shea Jackson Jr and Pablo Schreiber. Gerard Butler has his best role in years at least, intentionally hilarious where the script asks for it and badass when needed.
Pretty predictable plotting but the twist caught me off guard. Maybe a tad too unfathomable but doesn't completely collapse on itself. Liked it.
Would recommend to crime drama lovers to watch in theaters, anyone else on the fence it'll be on Netflix by the summer.
I went to the theatre thinking: this is going to be shit but I am going to love it because I love heist movies. Mid way through the movie I was like "wait a minute, this is not really a that kinda movie, its trying to be like Heat" then about 30 minutes later I felt like it was Insider Man trying to be Citizen Kane but accidentally becoming Dirty.
but by the end of the second hour I got used to the style (stopped focusing on the giant holes) and found it pretty entertaining. Just wish they edited like 10 percent out of it. But I agree the director is talented and the camerawork and acting of Oshea and Schrieber were really great.
I totally want to see this guy direct a bigger movie. And I still can't believe that O'Shea has only done two roles since SOC but I guess it's good that he's being judicious with his roles. Out of the three movies this is the worst but still not bad. He was awesome in Ingrid Goes West as well.
