A few of my favorites. What's the occasion? Wish I still had TCM. Maybe one day I can get it a la carte without having to pay for a billion channels i never watch.
The Omega Man is a childhood favorite. Saw it when ABC used to show the late movie (or whatever it was called). Soylent Green is another one. Logan's Run is just pure cheese, but awesome cheese.

I don't know what the occasion is. I've actually never seen The Omega Man and THX1138 all the way through. True, Logan's Run is awesome cheese with Jenny Agutter looking luscious as ever.

I dont like A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick is sooo much style over substance. Weak characters. Little emotional interest. He knew how to pick music for his films though.
I agree that Soylent Green is the best of the bunch. The Omega Man could have been a great adaptation of I Am Legend but they screwed it up.

I have to disagree about the Omega Man. They took the story of I Am Legend and modernized it a bit to deal with something very real and dangerous (i.e. biological and chemical warfare). At the time, China and the Soviet Union were definitely not friends as Mao was going his own way with Communism which the Soviets did not like at all. There was a very dangerous situation that they could go to war. This is one of the reasons Nixon was successful in "opening" up China to relations with the USA. While this is just a backdrop to the story that actually takes place, the fact that Charlton Heston (i.e. The Omega Man) was a relic of a period of modernization that the "family" did not want to remember because they believed it led to the sequence of events that caused worldwide catastrophe was a great way to adapt the story of vampires trying to kill off the last real man on earth of the old breed. I actually prefer this film to the original story and the Vincent Price adaption. Something about Omega Man just seems more realistic actually. I could see how some people could indeed not die but become diseased due to a biological war. They definitely wouldn't become crazy Vampire type creatures. Another aspect of the film that I liked was especially at the beginning of the film where you see Heston go about the day to day routine of his life. Driving his cars, watching a movie, and talking to himself just to maintain his sanity. I think we'd all be in a position similar to this. When he's in the car dealership and sees the girl on the wall calendar you can just totally empathize with him that he's lost the one thing that humanity needs the most, and that is companionship.

I haven't seen THX1138 but I will be recording it tonight. The others are all good movies. I will record Logan's Run and A Clockwork Orange just so I have them. The other 2 are great but I have seen them many times and don't need to record them.

So, the TCM guy labeled the marathon "70s Future Shock." It was nice seeing sci fi movies without jarring CGI fakery or trendy tinted blue or green color timing, just natural color, and real sets and surroundings. Imagine that!
I quite enjoyed "The Omega Man" particularly for 3 unexpected twists. "Logan's Run" was always a great premise and I dare say due for the remake I'm picturing in my head not the one we'll probably end up with. Dear god, I'd forgotten what an atrocity "THX1138" is. I can't believe Coppola let Lucas make this pointless bore. Thank god he eventually steered him toward American Graffiti and Star Wars.
