Agreed. The decision to contrive the existence of anthropomorphic African-American corn pops (when there weren't even any corn pops of European ancestry) is a miscalculation, but an understandable one considering the fetishisation concerning diversity. The African American corn pop does also seem to be the only one in the picture with its own unique identity (e.g. the only one wearing clothes) whereas the rest are a yellow monolith, so they probably intended it to be empowering to black people but then they forgot to contrive a suitably empowering role in which to cast the African American corn pop.
