I think "Man of Steel" was a good foundation for a Superman trilogy.
Small changes that would have altered the history of DC's films and their EXTENDED UNIVERSE:
- Start by making the flashbacks either liner or no flashbacks (just in order). - Add Zod to the SMALLVILLE fight (showing Clark that he cannot beat them with his fists) - Zod gets sucked into the Phantom Zone with everyone else. - I would have cut the Superman destroying the satellite/drone thing with Gen. Swannwick ("I think he's kinda hawt") It would have went from Superman kissing Lois fades to Clark and Martha talking about "What will you do when you're not saving the world"
Just those 4 MINOR changes...
We are talking about a film making 750M+ and having a 70+ % RT score and a 7.5+ IMDb fan score. It would have went on to make Man of Steel 2 and 3. The second could have made a 2 villain plot like Luthor and Brainiac. I would have had Luthor as a good guy trying to do the right thing (cleaning up Metropolis) but being brainwashed by Brainiac. The third film would have been the "Death of Superman" It would have started with Superman saving the world from a villain in the first act (major battle to begin film) and then the news talking about how the past 8 years he's save the world. Then it would cut to 5 years later. The world is taking Superman for granted. Really make Doomsday a BIG deal. Then we see Superman sacrifice himself over and over until he makes the ultimate sacrifice at the end. Then the world realizes they needed Superman after all. Ends with funeral (like BvS ending) two separate funerals. Dust moves. End Trilogy.

The only thing I didn't like about the film was Zod's Death. Other than that I thought the film was really good and a good opening for the DCEU, kinda like the first Iron Man.

No Pa Kent suggesting Clark should have let a bus of innocents drown. I didn't have a problem with that scene. I took it like he was so worried how his reveal to the world would effect everyone, that was it worth revealing it to save a few kids? He he didn't say he shouldn't save them, he's just a concerned dad. People seem to to forget the good advice. Like when that kid was picking on Clark and he said he wanted to hit him. Then Pa Kent says "Then what?" He tells him fighting isn't the answer. Hes is a realistic dad that doesn't have all the answers and he's concerned. Ma Kent tells him in BvS, "Be their hero or be none of it. You don't owe this world a thing". They are his parents first. They are basically telling Clark he needs to forge his own path, they cannot tell him what to do.

A huge part of what makes Superman Superman is his upbringing. Clark Kent grew up to be the Blue Boy Scout because his parents raised him with good values. Even suggesting that letting those children drown was "Maybe" the right choice is not what anyone should consider a good value.

It felt like the DCU tripped coming off the starting blocks with this one.
- Lois falling away from a black hole with cars flying up past her, only for Superman to have to use all of his might to stop her from flying into the black hole? - Lois always showing up in places she has no place being. Seriously, WTF did they let her on the bomber plane at the end? Just because they knew she's a main character I guess. - The absolutely contrived atmosphere plot - Tornadocide was an embarrassing exercise in the writer forcing pieces to be where they needed to be, even if it took hammering a series of square pegs into round holes to get them there. And the payoff was to blatantly miss the point of his dad's death while pretending to make a different point that made no sense. - The mounds of horrible dialogue, primarily from Zod, but also most anybody working for the General. - Fighting a giant snakey thing. Because we were all waiting for that. - Absolutely no set up whatsoever for future films. No vision. - Destruction porn that was so terrible the writer spent the entire next film making an excuse for it. - Fight sequences with absolutely no narrative, or build up, just smashing until it finally ends.
And the list can go on and on.

I think Man of Steel was an excellent film as it is, the only change I'll make is remove the sequence where Superman fights tentacles. And also maybe remove the kiss. People keep saying it was a joyless experience, but I had a complete opposite experience with it as it was one of my most joyful theatrical experience. I came out of the theater grinning like an idiot.

I think it's great, some things i'd remove and/or change, but I honestly think it's the second best Superman movie, right next to Superman: The Movie.

You're like Gretchen Weiner trying to make "fetch" stick with the Zack Snyder films... it ain't happening.

I know some do, but you're making it seem like these movies are The Godfather of CBM The DCEU is collapsing in front of our eyes and you guys still think the Emperor is wearing clothes.

Man of Steel is amazing. It's a first contact Sci-Fi superman film, not as much like a typical comic book film. It's unique and I love it.

Doing that with Superman just misses the point of the character.

No Pa Kent suggesting Clark should have let a bus of innocents drown. I maintain Pa Kent was some type of sociopath. Letting children drown. Making Clark and Martha watch as he's killed. All to protect a secret. No wonder Clark was so quick to kill and why he's such a jerk in BvS.

I've seen about 75% of it on TV. I've never seen the whole movie from start to finish, but enough of it to know how I feel about it. I want to like it, but I do not.
I think the acting was just fine, quite good even. But there's not much else about the movie that I like. I think the thing that bothers me most about it is the action. It looks very fake and falls under the "so big it's anti-climatic" category IMO.
