Yeah. I found it odd that one of Superman's lines is all about how his "S" symbolizes hope, yet there was practically none found in the movie. It was doom and gloom. Heck, even the sequel ramped up the the whole Superman is a scary alien bit. Indeed. Everything this film was about works better with Martian Manhunt. In both his true form and relatively more humanoid one he takes, he would look pretty menacing and, well... alien to Earthlings. Superman isn't supposed to be scary. He can have a commanding presence when needed, but at the end of the day, you're supposed to know he's the good guy.

Yeah, this Superman is definitely not the good guy. He started his public career by snapping another person's neck. Yikes.
Sure he stopped the bad guy, but there really isn't anything that separates this Superman from, say, The Punisher. There's no warmth to him (Chris Reeve had that in spades) and there's no feel that he's around to help. He just beats up criminals.

Indeed. People keep telling me "THEY CAN FIX IT!", but I honestly don't see how. The sheer amount of hoops any future writers are going to have to jump through to make this Superman and this Batman likeable are... well, circus acrobats would tip their hats to them.

I felt that Snyder just wanted to show how cool it was for Superman to use his powers and unleash them. Thus why you get a scary-looking Superman. I don't agree with that. Otherwise we would have see 'Freeze Breath' and cooler 'slo-mo' where everyone is frozen but Superman is moving so fast he looks normal speed. Like rain drops standing still while Superman super speeds and stuff like that. He tried to go back to the Silver Age Superman (when it comes to powers) he couldn't super speed and save Jonathan Kent without people seeing him. Just because Snyder didn't go all-out with Superman's powers doesn't make my original statement false. Superman is obviously powered-down for this movie but it still had the feel of Snyder just getting his toy cars and bashing them together. He seemed to care more about Superman using his cool powers and looking badass rather than actually developing A Superman.

It's my favorite Superman movie. Still disappointed we didn't get a MoS 2. Instead they chose to rush into the DC universe movies. That's a shame. MoS is a good movie.

I refuse to see MoS. MoS is not Superman. It is an insult to Superman, and what he stands for.

But for Man of Steel he did say he was going to make it like a regular movie without all the "cool" shots. He went for the opposite of the slo-mo and had them skipping around for the super speed.

Since Donner's played up Supes as Jesus, I would have gone more Moses. Maybe Superman's objective is saving the enslaved people of Kandor from Brainiac? Or have Lex as Clark's surrogate brother, who grows to hate and envy him, ie the Pharaoh?
Or not. I'm not a huge Superman guy, so I'm not the best person to pitch Superman ideas. As for Snyder's movie, it was kind of cool to see just how much damage a fight between metahumans could do, but the rest is basically a colorless remake of the first two movies with blander performances.
