The Thing (1982) Apocalypse Now (Theatrical) (1979) Taxi Driver (1976) The Godfather Part II (1974) I've rated films every number between 1 and 10, but I don't normally rate lower than 7, and i have more 8s than 7s, more 9s than 8s and more 10s than anything. So I've given out hundreds and hundreds of 10s.

I think both are good things.

I give out a lot of 10s/A+s. Yep... I'm not shy to award perfect A+ scores. Only 3 of my top 50 aren't.

I only have nine 10/10's and they are (IN NO ORDER)... -Gran Torino (2008) (May 30th 2016) -Lord of War (2005) (Oct 20th 2015 (i have seen this four times since i have been logging what i see which is Dec 27th 2011 to date)) -Open Range (2003) (May 24th 2016) -Road to Perdition (2002) (Dec 30th 2015 (if anything, i would say this grew a bit stronger on this viewing even though the 10/10 score remained so i can't really increase the score any.)) -Training Day (2001) (July 26th 2015 (this director is a one-hit-wonder for me)) -Braveheart (1995) (Dec 18th 2015) -Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) (Aug 23rd-24th 2017(largely 23rd)) -The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) (Aug 17th 2017(a little on the 18th)) -For a Few Dollars More (1965) (Oct 28th 2015) NOTE: the date next to the movies above is the most recent re-watch of those movies for me. which means ill be re-watching some of them before 2018 is finished because as a general guideline for me i re-watch ALL movies i score a 7 or higher (which is 196 movies currently) at least once every 3 years or so. p.s. there used to be more 10/10's from me (more than double at one point) but they have been thinning out for me over the last 4-5 years or so as i simply do not enjoy some movies as much and i adjust the scores accordingly. ----------------------------------------- OP's... -The Thing (1982) - 5/10 -Apocalypse Now (Theatrical) (1979) - 8/10 (that score is for this version or Redux. but when i watch this movie i typically see the Redux version. with that said... this movie is within my Top 58 movies and is my #1 movie of that war-themed-movies-with-guns type of genre as other movies like Saving Private Ryan/Enemy at the Gates have dropped off for me.) -Taxi Driver (1976) - 5/10 (My #1 Scorsese movie would be The Color of Money (1988)(8/10)) -The Godfather Part II (1974) - 7/10 (was a 10/10 for me at one point. now i prefer the 3rd movie the most which i gave a 7.5-8/10) Exactly. some people hand out super high scores routinely with that said... i never limit the scores i give movies just to limit them. there simply is not that many movies that are at that cream-of-the-crop-level in general. basically i ultimately judge movies based on my all around enjoyment of them and the further they get away from that the lower the rating as i never rate movies on a 1 through 10 scale based on their genre or anything like that but strictly in comparison to ALL movies i have seen as it's basically more of a feeling/some sort of emotional response a movie gives me in how i score it etc. p.s. then you got those sorta other end of the extreme types of people... like they seem to feel since no movie is perfect they can't hand out a 10/10 which makes no sense to me since movies are ultimately about someones overall enjoyment of them and if they pull that off pretty much as high as a movie can then it deserves a 10/10. the further it gets away from that the lower the rating.
