There's so many versions, some an hour longer than others. I think there's the theatrical release, the extended, the new edition and the directors cut. What's the difference between them and can anyone recommend one version over the others? Thanks!

Original theatrical version should be a safe choice, since the film's reputation as a masterpiece is based on that. Haven't seen later versions myself but I've heard quite a few people complaining about them feeling padded.

I suppose a directors cut could be interesting, but it was considered a masterpiece right with the original version so why not start there? |
