In My Opinion, not a bad film, and Barbara Hershey played the role well.
I found the scene, where Carla Moran's boyfriend comes into the bedroom when she is lying on the bed naked and being raped by The Entity, to be pretty disturbing.
IF the basic origins of the film are TRUE... It's pretty scary to think that you can suddenly be attacked and violated by an unseen force which happens to follow you wherever you go.

Haven't seen this since late 90s, when it seemed to be on tv quite often for whatever reason.
What really interested me was the final third or so that takes place in a mock-up house / laboratory setting - something very unnerving about that whole place. While The Entity is quite good movie as it is, I can't help but to think that David Cronenberg could have gotten more out of the story and these interesting set pieces. These are very much his kind of things.

I thought it was good. Sort of an 80s version of The Exorcist, quite intense and shocking. I don't buy the claims that it is a true story, but the concept does make for great horror entertainment. Ron Silver is a welcome screen presence and is very believable as the skeptical doctor who really cares for Carla and will do anything to help her.

Saw this years ago for the first time...wasn't sure what to think about it...but the ending though...with the demon saying "Welcome home c * *t". That was hilarious. I busted out laughing when it came down to that...THE END. I need to try to find a copy of this and watch it again.

Thought it was great ( in 1983 )
Very disappoined to find out years later it was not "a true story" as advertised.

northernlad - could you please use spoiler tags? I didn't remember how this ended and it would have been more fun to re-watch this not knowing that.

Discussing the ending of a movie, without letting people know that you are going to discuss the ending of a movie, is never appreciated!

Creepy movie. Watched it back in 2008 and it had a bigger impact on me than either Poltergeist or The Exorcist. Will revisit it again some time in the future. Definitely an underrated little chiller.

All I remember about this movie was Barbra Hershey's full nude scene lying on the bed--I'll have to rewatch this film again

Scary movie. Disturbing subject matter handled with necessary degree of sensitivity. Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver are brilliant.
