After a peculiar absence from TFA and almost no buzz for months following, Lando Calrissian finally burst back into SW canon within the Aftermath series. He was presented as triumphantly retaking Cloud City from an Imperial remnant. He was his old, debonair, swashbuckling self and it was a chapter that made it clear that there were future plans for the character. In the events following the Aftermath series - namely Bloodline and TFA - there has been no additional mention of him.
He WILL be back. There's no question about that.
But where's he been? Your guess is good as mine, but I'll tell you what my guess is: he's been searching the galaxy far and wide for something he lost shortly after the Aftermath series: his child.

I would guess that Lando has spent the intervening years rebuilding some kind of power base, along the lines of his position on Cloud City.

Lando froze himself in carbonite to escape Disney and Abrams.

I've given up hope of ever seeing Billy Dee Williams again in a live action Star Wars film. I wonder what the fan reaction will be when he dies.

I fully expect that he will be in ep 9 or even 8 as a surprise. Especially with Carrie gone. Billy Dee Williams is a certainty.

Yeah, I'm almost wondering if he'll be the inspirational lift needed at the end of TLJ. Assuming Finn and Rey both fall on hard times and Leia gets killed and assuming that Luke might be depressed, it'd be nice if Lando showed up in the last scene and said something to Luke along the lines of, "You still have friends and this isn't over yet."

When Lando returns onscreen he should be greeted by Admiral Ackbar. And Ackbar should say "How ya doing you old pirate! So good to see you!"

Billy's only 5 years older than Ford. He could've done something fairly simple like have a scene or two sitting and talking. They bring back all the white actors from the OT but not the token black guy? SMH.
