Really fails as a satire, murder mystery, and social deconstruction.

It looks terrible (sounds like the critics got it right) . And I think Clooney is a mediocre director.

The reviews have made that very clear. George Clooney may want to consider not directing too much, so very inconsistent, and I loved Confessions and Good Night, and Good Luck.

I like Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and The Ides of March. I don't like any of the other movies he directs, including Good Night, and Good Luck. Great subject matter made totally boring.

George Clooney On Stepping Back from Acting: 'I'm Not the Guy That Gets the Girl Anymore' www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/george-clooney-on-stepping-back-from-acting-im-not-the-guy-that-gets-the-girl-anymore/ar-AAutQTj?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=mailsignout“Look, I acted for a long time and, you know, I’m 56. I’m not the guy that gets the girl anymore,” he said, before adding that at least he “shouldn’t be the guy that gets the girl.” The father of two continued, “But, look, if somebody’s got Paul Newman in The Verdict, I’d jump. But there aren’t that many like that. Acting used to be how I paid the rent, but I sold a tequila company for a billion f— dollars. I don’t need money.” “I have money,” Clooney continued, “So I can fight to make movies I want to make. If you look at what I’ve been in over the past 15 years, for the most part they weren’t going to get made if I didn’t do them. Nobody was going to make Good Night, and Good Luck, Michael Clayton or Up in the Air, and I fought to get those out there.” Although Clooney did add that if he needed to find money to help get a film made that he was passionate about, he’d do whatever he needed to, bringing up the fact that “I used to do coffee commercials.”

Last film that I actually thought was pretty good that had anything to do with Clooney (actor/director/whatever) was The American. I thought it was pretty well done.
Good Night and Good Luck could have been amazing, especially with regards to the subject matter, but was completely boring.
Regarding Suburbicon, the whole premise has been done ad infinitum. It doesn't need to be rehashed again. Yeah, the whole 1950's model of suburbia was flawed, we get it.

Needed an extra 25-30 minutes in the beginning to flesh out the characters more.

The trailer was pretty lame.

I REALLY wanted to like this movie. I enjoy George Clooney as a director, the cinematographer is a genius, and the actors were good and the script was by the Coen brothers - I was thinking "no way this could go wrong". Yet it did. I actually think it was because of two reasons:
1. the black family sub-plot completely broke the genre and atmosphere of the movie. I know it was Clonneys addition to the script. Too bad he did that. A) The Meyers would deserve their own movie for one, and B, it just didnt fit with the rest which was supposed to be dark/morbid comedy, not a social drama.
2. the bad guys were too bad without being funny. It just went too far, but didnt offer any comedy like in Fargo for example. Nobody was sexy there, nobody was funny really so all you had was a movie filled with DISGUSTING HORRIBLE people that you couldnt even laugh at.
So… I gave it 4.5 mostly for the camera work, again that was done so well.

When you can say mid way in "oh I see why he did/said that" and it all makes sense. Like when Damon acts so cold toward his son as he is taking him downstairs or says "i thought we agreed…". The character development yes, I agree. They all felt too one-dimensional, not human enough. I might have to watch Fargo and Confessions of Dangerous Mind now again to get out of that spleen Suburbicon gave me
