THE BORROWERS 5/10 It seemed like KARI-GURASHI NO ARIETTI (THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY) was going to be a more quiet and intimate adaptation of Mary Norton's novel than THE BORROWERS. Unfortunately, it's a boring adaptation with little to no conflict and a lame villain. 4/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian).

I take this is a theatrical-only selection, hence the exclusions of the 1973 TV movie with Eddie Albert and the 1992 TV movie with Ian Holm.

I would've included them if I had seen them.

The problem with The Borrowers (the novel) is that it hasn't got a lot of conflict and no real villain to speak of. i think the 1997 film made a fair attempt at creating a story around characters who were quite close to the ones in the book. 6/10
haven't seen the japanese one.
