A show that works as both comedy and adventure. It can also be seen as a precursor of MASH. Producer Gene Reynolds and writer Laurence Marks were heavily involved with both. Both shows often use black humor (all the HH jokes about Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden). And the Bilkoish scenes of Hogan bursting in on Col Klink to pull a fast one definitely foreshadow Hawkeye barging in on Henry Blake.

A show that works as both comedy and adventure. I love "Klink vs. The Gonculator" episode so much that I bought the DVD set that includes it.

That's one of my favorite episodes, along with (off the top of my head) "War Takes A Holiday", "Easy Come Easy Go" (Hogan and Klink go to London), "Bad Day In Berlin", "The Missing Klink", "Klink For The Defense" and the one where Klink thinks Hitler is hiding at Stalag 13 -- and wants to make Klink his successor!

Sad to hear what happened to Bob Crane...
Came to think of him lazily viewing an episode of The Love Boat, where he did his last acting performance (That I learned later).

I think it was about twenty years ago that TV Guide placed this show in the gutter in some ranking they did. This was clearly done by editors that were born after the show had gone off the air and apparently considered it offensive and politically incorrect. Sad. This reminded me of my girlfriend in the early 80s. I took her to see Mel Brook's "The Producers" and she started shouting at me after we left the theatre mad at me for taking her to an anti-Semitic movie. I tried to explain that just about everybody connected with the film was Jewish and it honestly was not honoring Hitler. I liked "Hogan's Heroes" and enjoyed watching it with my father, the WW II vet.
