Focusing mainly on the legendary battles instead of the crappy historical love stories? I guess they will make much more and be less 'controversial' than movies like Jodha Akbar, Bajirao Mastani and the Upcoming 'epic' Padmavati.
But no director will seem interested. That's the tragedy of Bollywood. Everybody obsessing over some gratuitous romance.

I wonder why nobody thought of making it. Battle of panipath can be made into a great movie indeed.

Maybe Rajamouli can be convinced to take it up. That way, he will gain more respect with the populace than SLB, who is only interested in historical fetishized romance.

True man. Slb is just interested in historical romance and ashutosh gowarkar will think 10 times before making a historical film after an epic disaster mohenjodaro. Rajamouli can do justice for this epic battle film.

When has any Indian director ever made an even half-decent large scale war movie? And what makes you think this would be any different?

the leftists will come to the party and do street protests and JNU cribbing about how secular rulers are being tarnished. They will abuse the director as a Sangh Pamplateer.
I think a movie could be made not just on Panipat but on some of the following historical events/figures:
1. Gupta empire triology (Chandragupta I and II and Samudragupta) 2. Mauryas especially their formation and war with the Greeks 3. A netflix TV series on Kashmiri Hindu kingdoms especially the Karkotas who to me are the closest to an Indian version of the Tudors full of palace intrigues. Imagine king Lalitaditya who called himself Conqueror of the World, marching against the Turks 4. Finally Maharana Kumbha. The greatest Rajput king in my view. Unlike Prithviraj, Pratap, Sangha etc. who were all losers; Kumbha was undefeated against Muslims. Crushing Muslim alliances of multiple kingdoms who pincer attacked on him. He was a great writer as well as an appreciator of mathematics and the sciences. He was also a musician. A colourful life indeed. Finally he was killed by his own children in a palace intrigue.

We can show both Babar and Rana Sangha in God mode killing countless foot soldiers. They will be depicted as uber warriors. That way, everybody and their aunt will be happy.
