The ghost in a Drop of Water is a rather obvious dummy or a woman wearing a horrific mask. The ghosts in Crimson Peak are all CGI. I fail to see any connection. I did not mean how the ghost is made, but how the first ghost moves, slowly sliding forward, with hands ready for some kind of grotesque embrace, and colored gel lights with one wall red and the opposite green. That's the scene from Black Sabbath I was thinking of--the dummy is obviously being rolled forward, with the arms--which look like a mannequin's, by the way--slowly raising up as if to beckon the woman closer. It's a nightmarish scene, for sure, but I just don't see the connection between it and the ghost of the mother in Crimson Peak. That's an obvious CGI creation, and outside of moving toward the heroine, bears no resemblance whatsoever to the creature in Bava's masterpiece. Plus, there's no tactile "feel" to it. We know it's CGI. The dummy was real.

Crimson Peak is certainly beautifully filmed, but it's a meandering, ultimately boring and dissatisfying film. Sadly I have to agree with that, especially about meandering. Guillermo del Toro's career is very frustrating. He's obviously both inspired and talented, yet his filmography, also as a producer, has much more misses than hits. Something I found distracting in Crimson Peak is how del Toro recycled ideas and even entire scenes from The Devil's Backbone. Oh, this is so true. He's constantly promoted as the big noise in horror entertainment, but I find almost all of his films to be empty and ultimately disappointing. I was looking forward to "Don't be Afraid of the Dark," since I recall the TV movie fondly...but again, the CGI just ruined it for me. And it WASNT scary! Heresy!

Uninteresting story and bland acting form Hiddleston and Wasikowska, who also had zero chemistry.

ck100 is there any way we can subscribe to a Jessica Chastain blog of yours? The movie was colourful and Chastain was a totally bonkers villainess, those were the highlights.

I enjoyed it a lot. Thought Charlie Hunan was obviously bad in it tho. Like distractingly bad.
But the three mains were solid and the story was interesting.
