And I believe that memorable final shootout in TRUE GRIT ('Fill your hand, you sonavabitch!') was also filmed in your native Colorado, Kijii.
Thanks for adding those fond movie memories.

My home town was and still is used for filming. The last two weeks of "Scorpion" have featured good, old Lomg Beach. It has been subbing lately for Miami in several shows.
"It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was the film I remember the most showing my home town, but also had some scenes in San Pedro, where I was born. Most of those place no longer exist, but there is a quick view of the Rivoli Theatre that had 49 vent double features. I remember seeing GWTW and "How The West Was Won" on the same double bill. Went in at 1pm and got out at 9pm. Also saw "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" and "Thunderball" together.

I think that Hollywood had discovered that the Southwestern corner of Colorado from Montrose to the 4 corners are (near Durango) was ideal for expansive mountain valley scenes with golden aspens on the hillside in the foreground--and those beautiful snow capped San Juan Mountains in the back. Notice those movies I mentioned and you may remember scenes something like this in: The Sheepman Tribute to a Bad Man True Grit, etc. By the way, those aspens ONLY look like this in the Fall (late September-October). So, if they wanted the golden aspens in the movie, they had to set their shooting schedule for that time of year.
