Depends. Are you going to play online? What do your friends own? What games do you like?

Just picked up an Xbox 1tb + 2 Forza games + Call of Duty WW2 today for €270 I've always had my eye on a PS4Pro but the Xbox packages are pretty good at the moment and its a 4k player too, + my mates got loads of Xbox games and its backwards compatible with loadsa previous Xbox games Yeah it depends what system your mates have/play online, whether you want to play 4k movies etc

I wound up liking XBox a lot more, but it's not easy for me to say why. I didn't start console gaming until relatively late. I used to game on a PC instead.
I bought a PS2 first. Probably around 2002/2003, so I would have been 40 or so. I loved it, and that was the only console I had for awhile.
Around the time that the PS3 came out, which was also the time that the XBox 360 came out, I bought both as well as a Wii.
So I had four consoles that I was regularly playing for awhile.
But as time went on, I was gravitating to my XBox 360 more and more. I just liked the feel of it better--I liked the contoller better, I liked the interface better, etc.
When the next generation came out, I was initially going to buy both the XBox One and the PS4--especially because there have been some PlayStation exclusives that I've loved, like the God of War series, the Uncharted series and the Motorstorm series.
But by that point, (a) I didn't know how I was going to be able to fit in/hook up two more consoles on top of the four I already had (I'm in a smallish New York City apartment), and (b) I realized that I hadn't really played anything except for my 360 for awhile. So I only bought an XBox One and never got a PS4, and I haven't played my PS3, PS2 or Wii in years now.
I'll probably just stick with XBox from now on. I might miss PS exclusives, but it's not as if I don't have enough games to play, and XBox has their own exclusives that I love, too--like Saints Row.
Because I've been out of the PlayStation scene for a bit, I can't say that they don't have something comparable, but one of the things that will keep with my XBox now is their Gold and Game Pass programs. Basically you get a crapload of good games that you can download and play for the subscription cost. It's more than sufficient for me with the limited amount of time I have available for gaming. I still buy some things that I really love (I'm primarily referring to new entries in franchises--like I'll buy the Red Dead Redemption sequel as soon as it's released) that aren't on XBox Gold for free or on Game Pass, but there's tons of great stuff on there.

I don't own either console but i generally preferred the XBox consoles in the past (XBox/XBox360(i still have these. in fact, i have to many moded original XBox's (2 modchiped/3 TSOP(basically acts just like a mod chip)) along with one moded XBox360 which largely collect dust) as they have typically been more powerful than Playstation equivalents and have a better game selection as some of the XBox exclusives i like (more specifically Forza series which is one of the major reasons i had XBox's in the past and especially the original XBox's moding capabilities with XBMC (XBox Media Center) and it's ability to run emulators and run games from the hard drive etc). but it just depends on whether you like the exclusives on one system over the other as if you don't prefer the exclusives on one console over the other i would just get the more powerful one if you can only get one of them, which i imagine is the XBox given that's the way it's been in the past (even though i never looked into the details for the current gen consoles). plus, there is online play to which i imagine favors the XBox. but like i say i am a bit out of date when it comes to consoles. p.s. but since i prefer shooter games the most i tend to prefer the PC as the mouse+keyboard is definitely better for shooter games than a consoles analog stick as it's definitely easier for me to track stuff on screen as i simply have a hard time enjoying shooters on consoles because the analog stick handicaps me to where i am not good enough to enjoy the games but on the PC i am good enough. but in general... i have been playing games since i can remember (basically late 1980's/early 1990's). i was born late 1979. so i can clearly remember the transition from 2D to 3D (basically mid-to-late 1990's) and consoles getting more modern (basically like how they are today) as that pretty much started with the PS2/XBox in 2000-2001. basically the last time a Nintendo console was a major competitor was the N64 days (which was basically Sony vs Nintendo as Sega mostly disappeared basically) as after that they seemed to shift towards another type of gamer and Sony/Microsoft dominated as the major players and have been that way since. i still got a Sega Dreamcast, basically Sega's last console, but it's collecting dust in the basement. but it seems Sega was not a major player since the SNES/Genesis days (pretty much early-to-mid 1990's or so) as even with Sega Saturn (which came in 1995), Sony was dominating with PS1 (came out in 1995) and only N64 (which came in 1996) was giving it a challenge as in some ways the PS1 was better and in some ways the N64 was better and you have the exclusives etc(i think Super Mario 64 on N64 is still the best 3D mario game and can be played in high-res on a PC using this... forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-super-mario-64-hd-texture-pack-v1-5-2017-09-17 ; basically you run Super Mario 64 on Dolphin emulator for the PC with that texture pack and it gives it a proper wide screen view with high res textures etc. like it's a modern look but still old school at the same time). back in those days (late 1990's) i was primarily a N64 user as far as consoles go. hell, i still own the first 3D video card i ever bought for the PC which is a Diamond Monster 3D (i.e. 3DFX Voodoo 4MB chipset) which blew away the top consoles of the day, which were PS1/N64, with Quake running in OpenGL mode. i likely got that card sometime in 1997 given that's the date stamped on the video card. to my knowledge that general chipset was the first good graphics card for the computer. but i have owned a fair amount of graphics cards over the years for the computer as i think here is all of the graphics cards i owned for the computer at some point... 3DFX Voodoo 4MB(likely had since 1997)/3DFX Voodoo 3 2000 and 3000 (which was 16MB i think) models(probably got in 1999 or 2000)/Geforce 2 GTS 32MB(came with PC i had in 2001)/Geforce 3 Ti 200 64MB(got this likely around 2002-2003)/Geforce 7900GT 256MB(got in March 2006)/Radeon 5670 512MB(got in 2010) and my current one Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB(which bought in July 2017 and replaced the 5670 card which i installed back in 2010). i still have the PC that the Geforce 2 and 3 cards was in but only the Geforce 3 remains in the PC as i can't recall exactly what i did with that Geforce 2 card. hell, i still have a hard drive from i think the first PC i had which is only a 428.1MB hard drive (that was in a PC i had in 1995). it still works to as earlier this year i loaded up DBAN to wipe the data off the drive and it still works.

First consoles I bought were PS1 and PS2. I would have bought the PS3, but a buddy loaned me his Xbox, and I liked it. When it came time for me to buy a new console it was 360 or PS3/4. I bought a 360, mainly cause of a few games they had and I liked. I really do miss God of War, and Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy. Xbox took a little getting use to but it's not a bad system. Plus, I love the games for gold 60 bucks a year and you get 3 free games a month. 360 games and X-One games.
Honestly I did a Sheldon when buying PS or Xbox. That's what your going to have to do. Big debate.
WatchMojo breaks it down a bit.

If you have the money buy both. I have a PS, PS one, PS2, Wii, Wii U, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Gameboy and Gameboy Colour. I want to buy Sega and Xbox consoles. Also I want to buy a PS3, PS4, some other ones as well. I use my PC a lot for games such as Zeus, Age of Empires, Poseidon, Champ Manager and many more.
