Setting Armageddon aside... A quick glance through their lists shows quite a few films that I personally found underwhelming or mediocre - including The Great Dictator, Killer’s Kiss, Lola Montes... but I only spotted three that I outright hated: Satyricon, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Touki Bouki . The difference is that those movies are considered classics or cult classics and are usually considered good films. I don't like The Great Dictator either, but it makes complete sense why it is in the Criterion Collection. I think when the question of whether any BAD movies are Criterion was asked, it was meant to mean movies that are considered bad by the majority.

Well, yes, of course that is clearly what was being asked. But as the answer is very likely to be 'no' - the large majority of Criterion releases have great critical (or, on a smaller scale, cult) followings, so I think it bears mentioning individual films on the label which WE consider weak, poor or worse. I am always glad to meet another non-fan of The Great Dictator, by the way.

Just ordered The Breakfast Club... should be here in a week or so. Looking forward to the added footage, though I'm hoping & expecting it'll be a bit sub par & glad we got the cut we did.

...IMO, those Criterion features I would never purchase, are those that are not worthy. I own many, but they are films that are works of art...again, IMO... it is all pretty much subjective...

Soo... my Criterion copy of The Darjeeling Ltd. blu freezes up around the 35-40min mark. Apparently via google search this is a known issue from the release dating, that Criterion has a slew of titles which have failed to age properly. Their site has a list of about half dozen titles available for quick easy disc exchange, alas Darjeeling is not there (yet).

It's my only hard copy of the film, & I really don't wanna re-buy for $42 Canadian via amazon.ca... rage
