Thor: Ragnarok vs. Wonder Woman

Ragnarok was full of dickheads. We find out that Odin has been a real dickhead, a brutul and ruthless conqueror who had an Executioner execute anyone who dared to disobey him.

Even Thor was a real dickhead.

In Wonder Woman, Diana could've squashed Doctor Poison (who created the poisonous gas that killed an entire village of people and

that Steve Trevor made the ultimate sacrifice to destroy)

with the tank but she showed mercy (similar to Superman saving Lex from being pulverized by Doomsday even after Lex kidnapped and threatened to kill his mother),

but in Ragnarok, Thor puts the Grandmaster's neutralizer device on Loki's back and leaves his brother to be captured or killed.

Loki's positive relations with the gods end with his role in engineering the death of the god Baldr and Loki is eventually bound by Váli with the entrails of one of his sons. In both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the goddess Skaði is responsible for placing a serpent above him while he is bound. The serpent drips venom from above him that Sigyn collects into a bowl; however, she must empty the bowl when it is full, and the venom that drips in the meantime causes Loki to writhe in pain, thereby causing earthquakes.

Loki was fortunate that the other prisoners found him, but Thor was a ruthless and merciless dickhead who just abandoned his brother to be captured or killed.

They seem to have issues with strong female characters or, lets be honest, women in general.

This is based on the numerous posts here where they talk about how they hate women.

I was just talking about this phenomena among the mcu crew on this site. Too bad granny didn't have the intelligence of a comic book character or she could have avoided getting conned by a deadbeat for a few decades while popping out all those churren.

Nothing says strong like getting conned by some idiot that got booted out by his first wife. 

Speaking of insults, all that tripe about "strong pioneer women" and what you perceive as badly written female characters being an insult seems like bad fan fiction written by a guy posing as a woman

Now instead of your usual personal stories about fictional relatives,

perhaps you can tell us all why WW is not a positive female character.  Since overwhelmingly others see her as one I'm sure you can enlighten them as to why they are wrong.

Still, today’s superheroines, like their female victim counterparts, are often unrealistic, sexualized representations of female figures, with large chests, curvaceous backsides and unattainable hourglass dimensions. Their skin-tight outfits accentuate their sexuality with plunging necklines and bare skin, and many of their names (e.g., Risque, Mystique, Ruby Summers) connote, shall we say, a slightly less respectable profession than superheroine.

Comic books are known for their stunning artwork, fearless heroes and notorious villains. However, it is the bombshell female characters in them that make them even more of a sell-out. Heroines or she-villains, bodacious women in slinky outfits are probably one of the main reasons why a considerable portion of comic book aficionados are grown men.

The interesting question though, is whether female comic book characters really need to look the way they do. From gravity-defying bustlines to unrealistically slender waistlines, women in comics are not just attractive but salacious. Usually drawn by men, it is not a surprise that they look the way they do, but this is especially true for ‘powerful’ women in comics. I suppose ‘the hotter the better’. It is almost as if a woman can’t be tough if she isn’t hot as hell!

Comic Book Superheroine Breasts
I’ve always known that the depiction of characters in superhero comics is highly stylized and unrealistic, with some artists, for example Todd McFarlane, guiltier than others. Proportions are just vaguely human, skin-tight costumes hug every perfectly-formed muscle, and shoulders are improbably broad while waists are impossibly narrow.

And then there are the breasts.


Power Girl breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges the enormity of the situation.

I recently came across an illustration of the DC Comics superheroine Power Girl that was eye-popping, even to my seen-it-all comics-reading eyes. I was more of a Marvel fan during my rabid comics-reading days so, although I was vaguely aware of Power Girl, I can’t recall ever reading any stories that featured her. I knew that she was an alternate universe version of Supergirl, and related to Superman. And I remembered the costume, a white one-piece bathing suit with long sleeves and an inexplicable cleavage window. I googled Power Girl images to see if this particular artist had taken liberties with his illustration of the character. As it turns out, no. In fact, I discovered that Power Girl, in an industry noted for its idealization of the female form, had gained a reputation for having the biggest breasts in the DC Universe. David Campbell, on his blog Dave’s Long Box, explores the phenomenon in depth, with tons of illustrations to support his theory that Power Girl “is a tabula rasa that comic book fans and creators alike can project their conscious and unconscious desires on to.” Comic book fans and creators, in short, love breasts.

For all of the hyper-sexualized, pornstar-esque bodies that populate superhero comics, however, it’s a decidedly juvenile sexuality. There aren’t a lot of mature romantic or sexual relationships in comics, and when sexuality is acknowledged, as Campbell notes, it’s more likely to be in a leering, double-entendre fashion.

And that’s probably why comics never address the in-your-face issue of genitals. Strange, because these are characters who routinely traipse around in their underwear. Look lower in the picture of Power Girl, and you’ll see that her costume is noticeably French-cut, and quite revealing. All I’m saying is that Power Girl must have taken time off from fighting crime to fly down to Rio for a Brazilian wax. Superheroines are hyper-sexualized depictions of women, with perfect measurements and curves. Superheroes have different challenges, the opposite of the famous Seinfeld “shrinkage” issue. When you’re wearing skin-tight underwear and little else, there’s nowhere to hide, but comics have solved this potentially embarrassing situation by under-sexualizing the men. Like Ken dolls, male superheroes don’t seem to possess genitalia (or, at least, not functioning genitalia).

And so while debates can rage about which superheroine has the best figure or the largest breasts, we will never be able to discuss which superhero has the biggest muscle in the DC Universe.

And about that....DC could have made a "strong female character" decades ago. What a coincidence they waited all these years. Sure....

DC was just dying to get WW out there, weren't they? And those progressive DC fans were just clamoring for her, weren't they? Or not. Kinda late to pretend DC is this noble advocate for women's rights now.
