one of the most entertaining boxers ever. this is what boxing misses. Yeah boxing is lacking entertainers at the moment, and personalities really. But it's been a decent year for boxing, and still got Haye-Belew II coming up just before Xmas on a Sunday night which will be unusual. And the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series tournament early next year for Super-Middleweight and Cruiserweight division, and hopefully at least one unification fight in the Heavyweight division in 2018 which will normally capture the public's imagination. Just not a lot of American interest in these fights except potentially in the HW unifications.

His weight issue seems strange to me if he's content with how he looks. He prided himself on his appearance and his fitness when he was a boxer, to the point of arrogance. I mean I know retired athletes and people in general put on weight as they get older, but he's obese. Makes me think the Barrera loss must have hit him hard and his comfort eating was his escape.

I suppose when you do all that exercise and training every day of your life, then suddenly stop, but carry on eating the same amount, just that you are eating more junk than ever, you are bound to pile on the pounds. Some guys like Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn have continued going down the gym after retirement. Even Ricky Hatton is doing work with boxers now. Mike Tyson has become a vegan. And Prince Naseem has just become fat!

Hamed had issues - rumors of his bones in his hands being degenerative and brittle and he just couldn't fight anymore. plus personal issues - the horrible car accident which landed him in jail. not excusing the guys actions and behaviors. he was young, had money and was famous. i'm sure time/life has roughened him up a bit - looks to be happy though despite his weight issues and that's what it's all about.

Weirdly, I was never actually worried for Naz each time he got knocked down, I was still fairly sure (in my own mind anyway) that he was gonna get up and win. Loved the Halloween entrance too. Boxers these days don't come in enough with classic ring entrance songs. They keep choosing modern but obscure hip hop songs. C'mon guys, you gotta draw the wider public in, get everyone pumped!

I'm hoping Wilder starts promoting himself better in America, because there is potential there for a mega fight with Anthony Joshua, could help put boxing back on the map. Ideally they need to fight on the same card early next year, then set up a unification fight late 2018. And guys like Terence Crawford need to get themselves known by the public.

He doesn't look like Pavarotti at all. Just because they are both fat doesn't mean that they look alike. As a Pavarotti fan, I feel a little offended, LOL (R.I.P., Luciano!)
