Sizzler Ah, Sizzler. Who can forget the commercials - happy families, in the latest '80s fashion, enjoying steak, fried shrimp, baked potatoes and burger toppings from the fixins' bar - and that line from the 1992 film "White Men Can't Jump": "We going Sizzler, we going Sizzler"? It all started in 1958 with the opening of a restaurant that served a steak dinner for 99 cents. Today, there are dozens of Sizzlers throughout the country - mostly out West, plus one in Florida - still dishing up rib-eyes and crispy shrimp. www.app.com/story/entertainment/dining/2017/10/20/forgotten-new-jersey-restaurants-sizzler/779605001/

These are restaurants that are missing in New Jersey only. Denny's, for example, is widespread elsewhere. They are all over the upper midwest and the American west and southwest.
When I was in the military back about '68, a group of us used to go to a local Lum's in Indianapolis. They served great burgers and large beers in ice cream soda glasses. That chain is now out of business with most of its sites closed by the early 1980s. Too bad.

...I remember Sizzler well. Another one that came in with flair was Ponderosa. My first few visits to this venue were spectacular. Great steak and salad bar. Eventually, the quality sank and the food was terrible. They eventually went out of business in the Chicago area. The same happened to Sizzler.

Cheese toast! That was my go to at Sizzlers. But, I live in WI, & Sizzlers went out of business for reason. Fuddruckers is still here. We went to it all the time when it first opened. It still amazes me when I drive by that it's still open with all the other burger places that have come & gone. Denny's is still here as well. The rest I've never heard of. But we did have many Lums & Ponderosa's. We also had one that was called Yankee Doodle Dandy. It was sort of our "teen" joint.

Down under they've not entirely gone out of business, but there's basically a handful left throughout the country - shame as I always liked going there.

Stuckey's used to be near highways and interstates. Or one or the other??
There was a pizza version of Stuckey's as well. However, it was NOT called Stuckey's Pizza, but something else.

I would usually get a chocolate praline and some type of puzzle or game for my sister and I to play on the way to the happiest place on Earth. Good times.

I do, mainly because my mom worked there. Didn't care for the food.
