He was supposed to be an obnoxious brat though, that's going to be his character arc is overcoming that.
The show wasn't the greatest, I fully admit that, but regarding his character, I actually see what they're going for. He's deeply troubled over losing his family and he's completely naïve to American culture. I mean the guy isn't going to be normal.
They aren't going for anything. It's just poor writing. He was all over the place from episode to episode, Finn Jones's performance suffered because he couldn't make heads or tails of that character. Someone who trained for years with monks shouldn't be an obnoxious brat. Fish out of water, sure. Total flake, ok. Not a petulant brat. Actually think they are going for that, but I'll agree that fish out of water and total flake are cool. I think the petulant brat part is more out of frustration and not really supposed to be petulant brat, but I do see where you're going. It's just not irredeemable IMO. I think they can wrap up an arc where it fits right into that.

Hopefully they can build on that development and he'll be more capable as a character of carrying his own show next time.

Snyder's trilogy has to be considered the worst comic book trilogy of all time. It's hard to name anything worse.

I did not not agree with that statement, until I saw JL, which dragged it down ( to Atlantis )
