This one has likely already been discussed on here, but for me, Part 3 is the best of the sequels and I perhaps prefer it to the original. It has some inventive, creative and imaginative dream sequences; a well thought out script; a solid cast with interesting and likeable characters that you can care about, some interesting deaths and violence—with the exception of Will's demise, which I thought was poorly executed and weak. You could see the cables on the killer wheelchair, and the fantasy wizard part and kill was almost kiddy PG level—nice production design that complements both the style and substance of the film and strong direction. I think the series really ended here when Freddy was laid to rest. His resurrection in Part 4 was just ridiculous and the subsequent sequels just got a bit silly, tiresome and even boring, like Part 5. The series only really got a new lease on life with the terrific Freddy vs Jason-03'.

Loved that one, but man they reworked the idea for it so many times, if you read the novelization for it it's hardly the same whatsoever, just like Rambo 3.
Still, I wish they'd done the original ending and had Nancy survive.

Just preference really. There's not a huge difference. But this is not last on my list. Freddys Dead and the remake I do not like. I was just curious as to what aspects you like more about the others. While I think the first Elm St. is the best, Part 3 is my favorite to watch. That is if one considers best and favorite to be mutually exclusive regarding film. I didn't like the remake at all, but I preferred Freddy's Dead over Part 5. It was more fun and entertaining. Part 5 has a superficial visual style about it that I don't like, and I find many aspects of it uneven, unlikable, boring and even derivative. The deaths became over the top and silly and while they were attempting to be inventive and slick, it wasn't really the Freddy we knew from the first few installments, where his knives caused most of the slashing and mayhem. It was a self-conscious effort to make a stylized Freddy movie and I think it lost some soul or even heart in the process. I liked the director's Predator 2 so much better.

Wasnt a fan of slasher films but since the supernatural element was pretty strong I did like Elm Street. Watched the first one again recently. Still holds up.
Not much memory of the second except the gay subplot but the 3rd seemed like they upped the ante. The skeleton scene was worth the price of admission.
There was a deleted scene apparently-the nurse turns into a naked female Freddy--I have seen the pics, not sure how it was to play out in the finished film.

I think some of the slower sequences, and they are only brief, is what consolidates Part 3 and lifts it. Wasson is a good actor and he makes it work. The Nun sequences allow some depth of narrative and even provides a minor twist at the end. Part 3, is well balanced within the fun horror elements, and the more dramatic scenes that give the film it's substance. A solid presentation and technically the end of Freddy. Bringing him back with firey Dog pee was absurd.

100% with you. Although, I wouldn't say I like it more than the original, but it's pretty close. Plus, you can't go wrong with the soundtrack by Dokken. ("We're the Dream Warriors; don't wanna dream no more!")
After that, Part 4 was decent, as it was just as creative as 3, but just lacked the heart of that film, and I agree, the dog pee thing was a bit stupid. Part 5 was mediocre at best. While it was creative, the whole thing about Freddy coming out of Alice through her womb was too OTT. Then, Freddy's Dead, which is the worst of the entire series. Freddy is too goofy, the film feels like a parody rather than an actual sequel, and the unknown relative aspect was done in horror sequels many times already (casein point the mystery of Freddy's child throughout the story). It's only worth it for the creativeness and so-bad-it's-good moments.

I found it entertaining and was a gimmick movie right from the start, with the theatrical 3D ending which didn't work that well anyway and was hilarious. The franchise started parodying itself from Part 4 regardless, in spite of it's creative aspects. It was just getting a bit tired and long in the tooth. If Freddy's knives aren't being used to kill, then the kills can lost something for me in the process. Although I didn't mind Jennifer's TV death in Part 3, as it started out with Zsa Zsa getting slashed by Freddy and Taryn's drug death, Freddy's knives were replaced with needles, which was simple but effective.

Yeah, I don't get why they marketed it in 3D, when the effects never really happened until the last 20 min or so of the film. I just think that the movie could've taken itself at least a bit seriously, because it was meant to be the final showdown, and yet it became a complete joke. At least in Part 5, it took itself a bit more seriously, and the dark tone was definitely there. The only downside is the plot and Freddy himself. Besides, most 5th installments don't tend to be that great, anyway.

I thought Wes Craven's New Nightmare was also a great follow up. Didn't really think too much of it. While the concept was interesting, I found it was perhaps a bit too long and contrived.

'Dream Warriors' is a great movie and I would say it is my third favourite movie out of the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' franchise. I liked Patricia Arquette as Kristen and never understood why she didn't return for 4. My two favourites are 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 and 5' though 'cause I loved Alice and would love another Nightmare movie with Lisa Wilcox returning to play Alice 'cause she was the one character that really took it to Freddy and survived twice.

Alice was a good and interesting heroine in the 2 Nightmare films she did, I just felt that by the time 4 and especially 5 came out, they were starting to get a bit stale and old hat. Lisa Wilcox is the best thing about them. Freddy really died at the end of 3 and his using Jason from hell to get back into the subconscious minds again was more interesting and clever, than bringing him back with firery dog pee in 4. The dog was called Jason though. Hmmmmmmm!
