The November 14, 2017 Windows 7 updates include security updates to Windows Media Player (WMP). It has been reported that applying one of these patches will wipe out your Windows Media library and reset all your WMP settings. I took screenshots of all my WMP Options tabs as they are now, so I have a basis of comparison after I install the November 14, 2017—KB4048957 (Monthly Rollup). I recommend you do the same, at least for the tabs you know you've changed, e.g., Library, Privacy, and Security. P.S. I am not installing any of the November patches any time soon.

Woody Leonhard posted the following article on November 30th. Get November Windows and Office updates installed — carefullyWe are now at MS-DEFCON 3: Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. I installed 2017-11 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 x64 (KB4048957). Since 2017-11 Malware Removal Tool (MRT) was not checked, I rebooted after installing. Windows Update was still nagging me after the first reboot however, so I installed November MRT and rebooted again. I seem to have no problems at all. I had heard that Windows Media Player (WMP) would be reset to first run status after the install, so I took screenshots of all my WMP settings back on November 21st. But it turns out that was unnecessary as my WMP settings and library were retained.
